Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 What are you truly scared and afraid of? Not anxieties but things that make you scared, and how do you cope with it?
AlexAngel Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I have Monophobia. Which is a fear of being alone. If there is a chance that I'll be alone I just carry around my stuffies. Right now I stay with my cousins and I share a room with one of them so I'm usually not alone.
Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 AlexAngel, you must be a VERY brave girl to be able to do that, and I bet your stuffies aren't as scared either when you are with them! 2
LittleCelticLass Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I have Enochlophobia, I'm terrified of large crowds of strangers. If I have to go out into a crowd on my own, I always have a tiny stuffy, or a smooth rock (worry stone) with me for comfort.
Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 That is never easy...so you too are VERY brave! And good to finally know the formal word for this phobia.
Tianna2197 Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I am terrified of spiders, I freeze when I see one and usually start to cry... especially if it's a huntsman which I see a lot being in Australia. 2
Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 Of course nobody here is afraid of: A) The Dark The Closet C) The Basement D) The Attic Are they?

HOHSHIT those feels. There was one in our hallway the other night and a cat was playing with it, and it jumped like 0.5m in the air and I nearly pissed myself OAO I had to run and get my glittery rainboots on to stomp it. I hate them so much. Fast jumpy lil f*ckers.
mallowbite Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I don't know if this counts, but I get sleep paralysis sometimes and it's sooo scary!

Guest Bunnyblossom Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 One ran out from under the couch and I started uncontrollably crying. omfg. I was sitting on the couch in our back porch and one ran out across the cupboard. I hate huntsmen and white tails. Last yr in Summer I had a white tail drop off the ceiling onto the keyboard of my laptop on my lap right in front of me and I was screaming- it was like 2am xD Edit: Oh, uhm.. sry to derail the conversation. ^^" I too am afraid of spiders... but also birbs. Very ascared of birbs. I stay away from them. I was attacked so many times as a toddler til my early teens by various types of birbs- and for real got hurt badly. I wouldn't say I exactly 'cope' with them. We have birbs flying into the house via the chimney in the kitchen during Spring and Summer. But we also have 3 cats, and it makes me sad when they catch birbs and mousies. Daddy tries his best to save the birbies and mice etc. he's my hero. <3 I guess that's how I cope- havin' my hero Daddy by my side. ^^" lol
MarshmallowPeep Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I'm scared of the dark and usually keep a nightlight on all night. Other than that I'm scared of dogs and heights which I just avoid ;-;

Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 Thanks for sharing. Just remember everyone gets scared and your body reacts to fear by releasing chemicals to make yourself prepare for trouble and to run away or fight. Besides comfort items remember to breathe deeply and slowly through your mouth and nose, and count. Afterwards writing and talking about it helps.
Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I don't know if this counts, but I get sleep paralysis sometimes and it's sooo scary! Of course it counts and I hope it helps. Do you get treatment for it?
Guest Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I'm scared of the dark I'm TERRIFIED of storms and cry when I hear thunder before storm is even here I'm scared of being out alone / big events / crowds in fear of something happening to me Basically. Everything. I'll just stay home safe inside with all my lights on lol
mallowbite Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 Of course it counts and I hope it helps. Do you get treatment for it? I don't get treatment, I didn't even think that was available. Everything I've read said there's no conclusive information on sleep paralysis.
LittleTeacup Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I don't think I have any fears like these.... Just anxiety over not doing well in life or getting judged by people. I also sometimes get really nervous over calling on the phone, but that's gotten better over the last several years. My friend though has a bug and spider phobia and I've had to rescue her/the bugs from each other by grabbing the bug and bringing it elsewhere. I like getting to be a hero! Have any of you with severe fears tried using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)? It's a newish psychology tool that involves tapping on acupressure points on the body while saying "even though I have this fear of (whatever it is you have a fear of), I fully love and accept myself". It's not completely mainstream yet but there's lots of scientific studies that show it works to reduce fear. It also works to help people overcome chronic pain, food cravings, and any other issue that might have a psychological root. There's lots of youtube videos with examples and practitioners leading you through the motions.
Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 Good and interesting information! Thank you for sharing!

He was afraid of them all his life, which is why he put them in his books! (Your phobia is called Arachnophobia by the way).
Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I'm scared of the dark and usually keep a nightlight on all night. Other than that I'm scared of dogs and heights which I just avoid ;-; The Sun always comes up though! Just remember that. I've been bitten by dogs twice. I hate mean dogs too!
Guest MoominPoppa Posted January 29, 2019 Report Posted January 29, 2019 I don't get treatment, I didn't even think that was available. Everything I've read said there's no conclusive information on sleep paralysis. You can go in to a sleep research expert and see if they want you to sleep overnight in a center to monitor your sleep patterns. Or it might be something else and they can send you to another specialist. You can ask your health practitioner for a referral. Even if its not insured you should try. You should be spending a third of your life asleep; think of how much better the other two thirds will be if you can manage the problem!
