StrawberryDoll Posted December 16, 2018 Report Posted December 16, 2018 Hello! Since I was young I have nyctophobia (fear to darkness and night) and I want to speak with someone about it. I don't remember when it started, maybe when I had night terrors with five years old. All my life nyctophobia had been a part of my live and It have fed all my fears. As yet i need to cover my head to sleep and this week I had buy christmas lights for this reason. I wish it can help me to sleep more pacefully.
MasterPhotog Posted December 16, 2018 Report Posted December 16, 2018 StrawberryDoll,Your fear or darkness and of night is not uncommon. Regardless of how it started, it's best to concentrate on how to deal with it as best as you can. While you're home, you may want to night lights in darkest areas of the house, keep a flash light on your night table. This time of the year, of course, having Christmas lights seems like a perfect solution. As many of us like to cover our heads while sleeping, you may want to keep your head partly uncovered in order for some light to filter-through. Have you noticed if having a cuddly toy in bed makes you feel better? Hope this helps, feel free to let me know if I can be of further help. 1
redbabygirl Posted December 17, 2018 Report Posted December 17, 2018 Im afraid of the dark too.. idk what it is its just like something about how you cant see its like the neverending nothingness and whatever could be in the darkness that could hurt me 1
sullenDaddybones Posted December 17, 2018 Report Posted December 17, 2018 Suffered for yearrsssssssssssssssssssss. It was so dreadful! When I was a boy I refused to sleep alone and that lasted until about 15-16. Then I began research into the paranormal and other such things and ironically now I must have complete darkness and prefer nobody present to sleep peacefully. Once in awhile I will remember a nightmarish face in a movie or when I hear or feel things in the dark I will feel uncomfortable. It is the natural time in history when crimes were committed(it was even darker in history than it is now with light pollution so it was hard to find criminals in the darkness) You have to examine what actually is frightening you and dig into it. Desensitize it or just embrace having the lights on 24-7. 1
CherieBits Posted December 18, 2018 Report Posted December 18, 2018 I struggle with this too For the longest time, I could NOT open my eyes in the dark. I've finally been able to overcome that, and I can do it just fine, but I still cant sleep without my nightlights at all 1
XmochiX Posted December 21, 2018 Report Posted December 21, 2018 Yes, in my case it is related to my fear of ghosts and shadow figures (ghosts come out at night). I have conquered my fear mostly and it has led to a love of horror movies and (pastel) goth culture because I have loved monsters. Sadly, it also feeds my bipolar psychosis (hallucinations), which is nothing shprt of horrific, I can assure you. As long as I take my meds and sleep with a night light, I am usually good. 1

I also have some sort of fear of Ghosts, but they also interest me at the same time. I am also scared of the dark, so I sleep with some sort of light on. Otherwise I am scared to death of going to sleep. And I still have night terrors sometimes. 1
