junebug0325 Posted December 4, 2018 Report Posted December 4, 2018 Hi everyone! My Daddy and I have decided that we want to get an apartment together and move in during the summer. Although we haven't signed a lease, we are interested in a couple apartments by where my Daddy lives. I'm posting this to get some ideas of things that I need for moving in. I've been looking all over Pinterest and I've found a bunch of apartment lists for items that I need, but what would be good to ask for Christmas? And what things should I save to buy on our own? What are some things that you think are important but aren't included on the normal apartment list? Additionally, what tips do you have for moving in? Advice for the best moving company/moving trucks, best place to get boxes, or even when the best time to buy stuff is, would be greatly appreciated! Sorry if this post is random or not thorough enough, my mind is all over the place because I'm just so excited! Thanks for reading!
MysticSand Posted December 5, 2018 Report Posted December 5, 2018 CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. Or at least, that's on the top of my list when I move. I think the everyday ordinary things shouldn't be overlooked: laundry hamper, mirror, towels, hangers, etc... The best thing is likely to visit your local Ikea and get one of their catalogues to just flip through and look for ideas/essentials. I say try to save money by getting everyday essentials at Ikea (like plateware, bed sheets, towels, etc.) and that way you have more to buy nicer things that are meant to last longer (ie: bed, couch, etc.). If you/your daddy work in an office environment, ask to the supply manager if you can take home boxes. A lot of them will have empty boxes from ordering paper or just random other office stuff. USPS probably has some cheap large size boxes as well. Also! Never underestimate things that are for free! I'm not sure where you live but it's a thing here where people throw out neat/perfectly good stuff and just perusing the streets at night can score you some pretty awesome things. Or by word of mouth as people are always continually moving and trying to get rid of stuff. However, it's good to make a list of things that you need vs things that you want. Don't get too many (large size) things (like furniture) before hand since you don't know how much space you'll have (not sure if this is a concern for where you're moving but real estate in NYC is a hot commodity so space is a real issue here haha). Since you're moving in together, look/shop for things together so that you can get a sense of each other's tastes and wants too. Since you're not moving until summer, if you have a uni/college near you, a good time to raid and/or look for freeby/cheap stuff is when college students are moving out! Typically end of January and May! I'll hopefully be moving soon as well (way before your move in date of summer hopefully) so I'm going to follow this thread for tips and such. =D Best of luck with shopping and your move! 1
Lola Step Posted December 5, 2018 Report Posted December 5, 2018 One small tip that I do have although it may seem obvious is to get a suitcase and pack it full of essentials. Yes this is obviously things like electronic devices and everything you can't/think you can't do without but I would also extend it to things like a towel, bedding, work uniforms, school books, chargers, even a cup and plate etc; because when you first move in that night you're going to be super duper tired and you may not be able to or feel like unpacking for at least a few days and then when you do you might not be able to find things for a while so yeah just write down a list of basically everything you need or use during a day and then pack it in a suitcase. Also if you're SUPER organised you can even label each box with a number and then on a sheet of paper write down the box number, what room it belongs in (you can label this on the box too and furniture so movers know where to put it, also label room doors too on the day as it makes it easier for anybody helping you), and a list of everything that's inside the box, hope all this helps you guys
Fairplay Posted December 5, 2018 Report Posted December 5, 2018 I bought one of my former littles a loft bed...(unless you and Daddy are planning on sharing a bedroom) It had a stepladder for her to climb up into bed, and she made a special princess playhouse underneath with sparkly Christmas lights and pillows and some of her stuffies lived under there, too. It was a perfect place for storytime!! The bed above had a cute fence around it, too, just like a toddler bed (which was very appropriate)
Guest Naturalselectionissexy Posted December 5, 2018 Report Posted December 5, 2018 You have failed to provide critical information in terms of budget and also the items you deem required, also no mention of what you currently have. I could go from minimal clothes, a mattress, blankets, and toiletries as basic requirements all the way to marble surfaced xxxxx and the most unique designer kitchen gadgets. Basically you could ask your question to anyone throughout the world and get a different answer from every single person. Let's look at this logically. It will cost you more than you have planned to FULLY furnish to your hearts content. Start with your basics and add when you can.
