ashwee Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 So like… I've always kinda been afraid of the dark, and I was just curious who else is? It was always one of those things that set me apart from others after a certain age. I always felt so weird about it, but now I just embrace it as one other aspect of my little-ness. Anyway, before I moved in with my daddy I used to sleep with ALL the lights on in my apartment—literally. It was insane. Now that I live with him and he's always near me it doesn't bother me as much… and plus we have an aquarium that lights the room up so that helps a bit too. 2
MrBonesWildRide Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 My fear of the dark is also the same as my fear of heights. It's less the darkness itself but more a combination of intrusive thoughts (what if this happens, what if you just threw yourself off that hillside, what if the building fell over) and overreaction. I always think "Well if a serial killer wanted to kill me, I'm in the perfect place for it". My fear of the dark is less likely to appear the more lit an area is. Where I used to live, when it got dark it got DARK. Not a lot of ambient light and very little street lights. Now that I'm here and there are lots of light sources, I'm not as afraid. Heights on the other hand, are an extreme challenge. I sleep in the somewhat dark. I usually have some sort of light (christmas lights I refuse to take down, my octopus charger that lights up, etc). I've grown accustomed to it. 1
Guest Pouty Kitten Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 Me!! I sleep with a night light because my mind likes to create scary stuff from the shadows x_x i've gotten a lot better tho..When I'm with Daddy it's a little easier
LittleTheresaAnn Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I'm Scared of the dark. It's called nyctophobia. Lights don't really help me but I sleep with the bathroom light on in my apartment and I usually make sure I'm under the blankets and cuddling my stuffies. My potential daddy knows but Im not sure if he fully understands...
DaddyandMunchkin Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I was raised next to the woods so whenever I went out at night I was convinced there was someone in the woods waiting to slice my throat open. This ridiculous albeit realistic notion enhanced when I saw the Halloween movies (The one with Michael Myers) so whenever I'm in a suburban neighborhood, I try to not be out past 11pm because I'll get an anxiety attack while walking down the street waiting for someone with a knife and a mask. So it's a fear of outside dark more than inside dark. Munchkin is afraid of outside and inside dark if silence accompanies it. We always sleep with music on or a movie in. 1
Cutekitten Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I'm afraid of the dark, I can't sleep without a light on in my room. Only when I'm spend night in Daddy's house I'm feeling safe and I don't need the light on

It's less the darkness itself but more a combination of intrusive thoughts (what if this happens, what if you just threw yourself off that hillside, what if the building fell over) and overreaction. I have the same thought process whenever I'm somewhere high up. I'm always afraid I'll accidentally jump off. From what I heard, the reason that happens is because your mind needs to run the scenarios so you know what to avoid I guess? Me!! I sleep with a night light because my mind likes to create scary stuff from the shadows x_x i've gotten a lot better tho..When I'm with Daddy it's a little easier I see stuff with the shadows too :/ I was raised next to the woods so whenever I went out at night I was convinced there was someone in the woods waiting to slice my throat open. See, that's why I don't watch scary movies hahaha. I get up and walk to the other side of the room, then sprint back to my bed, survey the area, and then get comfy in bed. That sounds exactly like me haha.
MrRider Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 Thanks to the Doctor Who episodes in The Library I'm scared of the dark and shadows especially, known for sprinting from light spot to light spot in woods and having many torches in my room or on my when out at night.
gah!ghost Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I'm kinda afraid of the light so I'm happy ashwee ended up being able to sleep with the lights off. I pretty much never turn on lights. Any time there's lights on it's because ashwee has turned them on. I feel exposed in the light, especially bright lights and much more comfortable hiding in the dark.
Elle Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I'm more like terrified of the dark! When I was little my cousin would lock me up in the closet and I couldn't get out! I sleep with the tv on, though
Guest Sae Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I'm afraid of the dark, I sleep with a nightlight. :3 I don't really see it as a thing that shows my littleness. I get trauma nightmares if I don't have some kind of light, like a nightlight.
LolitaNikita Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I'm afraid of the dark as well, always have been. It's a fear of unknown I think, plus I'm near-sighted so I can't see well in the dark at all... Me and Daddy can't sleep with the bedroom door open because it's too open and dark like that, lol. It's okay if it's the bedroom with the door shut, (and closet shut tight) and him sleeping next to me to be dark then, but only that way, lol.
daddysevermore Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I am also afraid of the dark. I have a way too intense an imagination. When I was about 4 I saw a Dracula movie and it scared me so bad that ever since then I have slept with something covering my neck. Even if it's 100º outside and I am dying I will have a small sliver of sheet across my neck. I mean, it's silly...If a vampire really wanted to gnaw on me they could easily remove that sheet but I have done it for years. To the point now that my neck is super sensitive because I protect it so much. Stupid skeery movies *pouts*
Kitten Cupcake Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I used to be afraid of the dark, though I am still scared of the dark if I am outdoors and alone.... near trees or creepy forest or just plainly outside with no light T_T.
ashwee Posted March 28, 2015 Author Report Posted March 28, 2015 I haven't watched much of Doctor Who but I remember a friend showed me part of an episode about the vashta nerada and it scared the crap out of me. Same here, my bf showed me an episode once and it scared the craaaap out of me.
Elegant-Kitten Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I sleep better when it's completely dark. But my fear of bugs and spiders makes it hard to ever actually fall asleep. I had a really awesome wave projector that would make my ceiling look like it had waves rolling on it and I used it nightly for years but my kitten chewed the cord- the one and only time he ever did chew stuff... :c so now I still have my mini christmas tree up with the lights on until I get around to buying a new projector. 2
BabyRaai Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I love the dark, I actually can't sleep with any lights on, it keeps me up! When I was a real child (about 10) I was really really scared of the dark though. I lived in the middle of no where and it was super scary
princesstiffy Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 i'm actually sorta terrified of the dark.
Ember Moons Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 lol i am at times so i got a timed night light that makes my ceiling and walls covered in stars and moons and it gose off after 30 mins
PrincessCrystal Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 I actually hate having the lights on when I'm trying to sleep, the only thing I allow to be on at night is the light from my humidifier. I think because I wear glasses normally, and only take them off for bed, and I can't see anything anyways without them I'd rather it just be dark.

I have the opposite I'm a nyctophiliac, night time is my happy time and darkness keeps me feeling comfy except on occasions when I saw a scary movie or something. I also can't sleep with lights on it bugs me too much. 1

I also can't sleep with lights on it bugs me too much. Sounds like me. If something really scares me in a movie or something then I have a little problem with it being dark, but only if I am home alone though. 1
CaptainsKitten Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 I'm afraid of the dark too. I also hate sleeping in complete silence. but he likes sleeping with no light or sound so when I move in with him we're gonna have to compromise :/ because I won't be able to do that. but I find it kinda funny that I'm so afraid of the dark considering how much I hate the light lol I'm attracted to dark things and I love it but it scares me because I always think there's something watching me
beingthesubme Posted October 30, 2016 Report Posted October 30, 2016 I like to sleep in dark but I'm also a bit scared sometimes. Like others have said, for me it is about what might be in the dark. When I'm really scared I turn on my Christmas lights that stay up year round on a bookshelf. My stuffies also help.
Harley_Quinn Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 I usually fall asleep before daddy so all the lights are on. But if he comes to bed at the same time I freak out if he turns the TV off. I need the light. I'm really scared of the dark.
