Guest Arc Posted October 28, 2018 Report Posted October 28, 2018 You could have asked him why or even googled why. And yes if you used any cooking oil it will probably go rancid. When conditioning things with oil you have to use the right type. :/ I think give him time and genuinely try make an effort to listen, learn, and understand things. There's not really much you can do now but move on and learn from it.
Guest Naturalselectionissexy Posted October 28, 2018 Report Posted October 28, 2018 How about you buy a new one and pay him for the one you ruined? Instructions are there for a reason.
Guest Naturalselectionissexy Posted October 28, 2018 Report Posted October 28, 2018 That being said... Honing is a skill and takes a while to learn.. I have ruined many knives in the process.
Guest Posted October 28, 2018 Report Posted October 28, 2018 How about you buy a new one and pay him for the one you ruined? Instructions are there for a reason. The instructions on the stone he gave me said to put oil on it, it did not specify the type. The video he gave me, and he said was really good, said the stone should be soaked in water, but he said no to that either. He did tell me what type of oil is usually used, but that was only during my lecture after I screwed up. He already has his own stone, I ruined mine. I guess I could buy him the better one he mentioned wanting a while back. He'd like that!
Guest Naturalselectionissexy Posted October 28, 2018 Report Posted October 28, 2018 Interesting... I have 6 stones and have always soaked them but never put oil on them. I use them to sharpen my straight razors, so just about the sharpest knives you can get. Idk what else to say besides lesson learned? BTW do you want this guy in a romantic way? If so do something cute for him.
Guest Vintage Daddy Posted October 29, 2018 Report Posted October 29, 2018 (edited) No clue why he instructed you the way he did.... so I will keep my mouth shut about that. As for stones, they can be cleaned, unplugged, and reconditioned if they are caked with some of the worst gunk imaginable after decades of abuse. What you have I would just clean up with hot water, Dawn dishwashing liquid, and one of those green scratchy fiber kitchen pads.... If it was mine.... Check out this degreasing video and it may give you some ideas (SFW) PS: I have a stone I bought about 12 years before you were born.... it has had every slippery kitchen food product made used on it at one time or another.... and it is still my go to for the final on all my hunting and skinning blades. Just remember.... with stones once you use oil it will not perform properly with water. So you just keep using oil. Edited October 29, 2018 by Vintage Daddy

Guest Posted October 29, 2018 Report Posted October 29, 2018 No I don't want him in a romantic way. I may color something for him Thanks so much for the video vintage Daddy. I have all that stuff and will get on to cleaning it. I guess I'll use it dry like he wants, but I hate, hate, hate the sound of it dry. Makes me grit my teeth. oh well! Thank you both for your help.
