Guest bbAmalthea Posted October 17, 2018 Report Posted October 17, 2018 Hi, so first off: Luna isn't my real name, just something I go by on the interwebs. But ! I'd really like to rename myself , possibly legally change my name and I was hoping for some help with ideas ? I have a small list but I'd love more ideas ! I'd really like it to be something "witchy" or have mythological or magickal origin (think nordic or greek even) My ideas so far: Alexo: to help or to defend Amalthea: to soften or soothe Caireann (Saireann/Syreann): little love or little friend Valkyrie: “chooser of the slain”, norse, spirits who chose warriors to die and took their souls to Valhalla to feast upon till Ragnarok. Wren: small bird, friendly to humans Zelenia: variant of greek name Selene, goddess of moon Thank you !! <3 Luna
Guest Bunnyblossom Posted October 17, 2018 Report Posted October 17, 2018 I have no suggestions, but I really like Zelenia and Valkyrie.
Guest Dulci Posted October 17, 2018 Report Posted October 17, 2018 I mean. It's you that has to put up with it at the end of the day! And as someone with a hard to spell first name, get used to people being confused if you pick a hard one .
James Connolly Posted October 17, 2018 Report Posted October 17, 2018 Freya - Norse goddess of fertility and love.
Strict Posted October 17, 2018 Report Posted October 17, 2018 and I was thinking the same"freya - Norse goddess of fertility and love"... if this is a vote!
Guest Swadloon Posted October 17, 2018 Report Posted October 17, 2018 Zelenia sounds a little odd to me mostly because “zeleniy” translates to “green” in my language. Amalthea is lovely IMO. May I suggest Ariadne? Also, as someone who changed their name legally to something difficult (“Yevgeniy”), I’ve got to tell ya - live with the new name you’ve chosen for a year, maybe two, before applying for a name change. Sometimes the first name you choose ends up not being quite “you” for the most unpredictable reasons! The first male name I chose was Kristof, but then two years later I converted from Christianity, and suddenly that name began sounding quite silly. Dulci is absolutely right - if you pick an unusual name, people will butcher it mercilessly in any way possible when spelling or pronouncing it. Even “Wren” - you’ll get “Ren” all the time. Now, some people aren’t bothered at all by this (I’m not, evidently) but you have to think about whether that might get your goat over time. Lastly, this is an intensely personal process, so take what others think with a grain of salt. If you truly love a name and think it’s the one for you, and someone comes along and says it’s ugly and dumb, tell them to go jump in the lake. It’s not their decision or business. 1

Thats a really good idea, I'm gonna do that actually. Try the new name out before legally changing it. And Amalthea has been sticking w me thru the day, that's the one that has stayed on my mind. I love the name Yevgeniy tho thats so cool ! I don't think I'd mind mispronunciations much, people get my last name wrong sometimes. Thank you so much for the reply, it's really great insight and very helpful <3
Guest Arc Posted October 25, 2018 Report Posted October 25, 2018 I kinda like Valkyrie. But definitely live with it for a while. I know someone who changed their name and it was a really long annoying process for them. I guess it depends how many things your name is connected to, but if you end up disliking it for any reason you don't want to have to go through that all again lol.
