Whats something about you that often surprises people?

I don't know why but it always seems to surprise people online that I'm from New Zealand. Like they know about us but never expected to meet one of us lol. I don't think it's anything special, but I've still heard "wow!" so many times that I've lost count ._.

But in real life.... the most noticeable one is that I'm strong and flexible. I'm a bigger girl and people don't expect me to be a pole dancer or aerialist. I guess because generally you see teeny people doing those. Anyway I remember my very first aerial class and when we were warming up the instructor gave me this long talk about "don't feel bad you're just beginning if you can't keep up just try your best and you'll get there one day." When I did the splits my instructor literally fell out of hers and asked how I was flexible lol. There's other things I guess but that's the only one that frequently gets people to stop and say woah.

New Zealand has been confusing for me for the first 15 years of my existance because it sounds so similar to a Dutch province, called Zeeland and i thought they just kinda revamped the province all the way by Australia. (Yup wasnt the brightest kid)

Also, i learned my lesson not to EEEEVER judge anyone based on appearance. I challenged my ex who is about 155cm (im 180) to wrestle and see who could tackle the other and we reached a friggin stalemate, even though im literally almost TWICE her weight!!

Oh yes to this day it still takes me a second to process it when i see a non arabic person belly dance because i grew up only ever seeing arabic women bellydance in tunesia and the very first time i saw a white person do it was on one of those Americas got talent cringe comps with 3 elderly ladies sooooooo my expectations werent that high until i got proven otherwise (also, obviously being good at an activity isnt exclusive to 1 ethnicity)

This is probably not close to the others' answers... but... I usually get a comment from people that their first impression of me is that I'm a super nice and sweet person. And then somewhere down the line if they really do get to know me, they comment on how their first impression of me was way off as I'm actually pretty cynical and dark - but humorous.

And also that I hate people. Which, for someone who's always worked/volunteered with youth and different aspects of social services, may seem like something that's really not good to say or feel. But, to that I respond that it's the year 201_ and look at how many terrible things still go on in the world - things that go on because it's humans doing that to other humans.

Hope this didn't get too dark!

You honestly remind me of myself! In the rather public environments im fairly mild and just kind and yada yada but 1 on 1 im a dark motherfucker.. ask literally any of my friends :p but those 2 go hand in hand perfectly though! I know my fair share of true dark humor lovers who give excellent advice and wouldn't harm a soul.

And touching on the hating humans part, i hate humanity as a whole but love humans individually. Does that make any sense?

Yes to everything. That's exactly how I feel about humanity as a whole and humans as well! Glad to know there are others with the same sentiment.  :D

First is always my voice that catches people off guard. Next is usually my morbid and dark art style. Also, the fact that I have a knife collection, and that I own and know more about powers tools than most people.

The fact that I'm doing a PhD in biology throws most people way off guard.  I have a babyface, I dress rather outlandishly, and I'm not shy about my many uncommon and/or childish hobbies, so people usually think I'm a high schooler or that I'm in some sort of super artsy career.

If I get asked what grade I'm in by a random stranger one more time I swear I'll flip a table.
