Guest CollateralBeauty Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 So I'm currently just browsing around for some makeup. Particularly eye shadow palettes and highlighters. I'm really just open to any recommendations at all though. I'm still pretty new with makeup so if anyone would also like to share some advice or who their favorite beauty guru's are, please feel free to. Right now I don't have a very extensive makeup collection. It's a lot of just drug store makeup (especially since I'm still just getting my feet wet with it). But I have loved practicing with it.
Tinka Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 well it depends on what kind of make up you will like . For example more natural nude looking (earthy brown tones) or extreme colors on eye shadows. I used to put a lot of things, but as i grow older i think that make up (foundation , contour , bronzer etc) are dangerous. You might hug your daddy and leave a mark on his clean shirt, such a horror! So i only use eye liner, mascara, and some times lashes , (or lash extensions) You can try different things to see what looks good on you and what makes you feel nice, but if you will end up using make ups etc i would highly suggest a primer first. took me 29 years to understand the difference that makes on the skin when you apply foundation and/or eye shadows. the only thing i got to suggest (ONLY in case you like eye liners, is the Black Lacquer of L`oreal. I spent a pneumonia 10 days being roasting with fever day and night, couldnt even go to the restroom, but my eye liner was on point!

I do tend to lean towards more natural, neutral colors for eye shadows. But I do want to branch out and do more bold looks as well. Some palettes I'm already looking at are: - Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH) Modern Renaissance - ABH Soft Glam - ABH Norvina - Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow palette For highlighters, I've really only been looking at Jeffree Star highlighters and the ABH highlighters. And is the L'Oreal Black Lacquer eyeliner a gel or liquid? I've never used a liquid liner before.
Tinka Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) https://goo.gl/images/ihKcSM this is it. i dont like Jeffree Star and i would never support him by buying any of his products. It depends again weather you want them to be nude or colorful and weather you want them to be pigmented . I prefere nude, and mattee. Urban decay Naked line of eye shadows is very nice for start. Ps--> i think with eye liner, you can make your eyes bigger. this pic was taken years ago with no filters or anything and the eyes look enlarged due to eye liner, (and lashes) http://prntscr.com/ku6yai Edited September 14, 2018 by Tiny_Tina
Guest CollateralBeauty Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 I don't really know a lot about Jeffree Star, but I do like how flashy his highlighters look. And a few of my friends have some Naked eye shadow palettes. And yet, that's one I keep forgetting to look at. I'll have to go look at some now.
Tinka Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 i keep ''forgetting'' too because of the price i have 2-3 eye shadows that are single in their package, and i use /blend them nicely and i m finished
DustBunny93 Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 I love makeup! I have recommendations for both drug store brands and higher end ones. Drug store: I have used Revlon foundation and I like it. The photo finish foundation. I tend to use "dewy finish" foundation which gives your skin a more glowy almost hydrated wet look, but in a good way. I have dry skin. Dewy finish foundation is great. Matte is when it makes it look non shiny. That is good for oily skin. For highlighters I love the liquid drops. A lot of drug store brands have a version of it. Honestly each drug store brand has nice stuff depending on what you are looking for. As for the higher end brands, I love Urban Decay. I have all the "Naked" eyeshadow palettes. I love them! I have also used the 24/7 eyeliner and also the lip liner and lipstick. They are all great and stay on. I have used the liquid foundation from bare minerals. I love that. It's great for dry skin. I have also used Pür Cosmetics. They have pressed powder foundation and I love it even though it is powder, which I usually don't use. I have used the other foundation too. They have that is a liquid spray that gives the air brushed finish. I would check it out! I have never used any of the ABH stuff yet. Oh I almost forgot. I use BH Cosmetics which is drug store price ($10 for a huge eyeshadow palette) but high end quality. I got mine at Ulta. They have a website too. I use benefit cosmetics brow gel/brow powder for my eyebrows. I have tried a bunch of stuff but my favorite is Urban Decay by far.
PrincessAurora Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 hihi, resident beautician here <3 everything depends on budget if you want something on the cheaper end. i always suggest hard candy [urban decays secondary brand], kleancolor and beauty treats, i use these myself, pallets are beautiful and last a long time if used correctly. kleancolor and beauty treats can be found on here https://www.shopmissa.com/ if you want something a bit more on the expensive side, Mud is always good, we stock our professional kits with them https://www.mudshop.com/collections/eye-color-refills too faced also makes some gorgeous pallets for an indie brand i'd have to suggest http://starcrushedminerals.com/ i've been following them since they started and they just recently released a line of matte eyeshadows. i'll have to go through my collection and get some photos of my pallets for you later
DustBunny93 Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 Oh yeah.. I have been using wet & wild drug store brand lately too. I just bought a liquid lipstick and I really like it. ABH has liquid lipstick as well and I'm sure it's great. I haven't tried it. The wet & wild one was only a few dollars. I use my carmex chapstick first then I put on the liquid lipstick and smudge it with my finger. That way it's thin and even. Sometimes the applicators can put out too much product.
Little Illy Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 I dont know how to girl. But I sincerely wished I did >< 1
Guest ~*~Sachita~*~ Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 It isn't really necessary to buy a full sized highlighter. Same goes for blush and bronzer. Very little product gets used, so even the smaller sizes last forever. Maybelline has one called Masterchrome (I think) that is really good quality. My personal favorite is a collab palette between Bretman and Morphe, it has six highlighter shades and i love the quality. I've also got the mary-loumanizer from thebalm. Actually, my number one recommendation would be thebalm's In TheBalm of Your Hand Palette. Highlighter, bronzer, three blushes, and four eyeshadows. Pretty sure I got it for 50% off during a semi-annual sale. As for eyeshadows, I have tarte, too faced, abh, and others. I would recommend Colourpop. They are affordable and the quality is right up there with the others. As for beauty gurus, my faves are: Tati Andrea Matillano Mel Thompson Katerina Williams Thataylaa Nikkia Joy Wayne Goss and I love Jeffree with all my heart.

I just saw the price tags... I like all the neutral colors though. I love makeup! I have recommendations for both drug store brands and higher end ones. And thank you for doing both drug store brands and higher end brands. I currently have the wet & wild foundation and I'm liking it. I haven't tried any other foundations yet though. Foundation is really what intimidates me the most. I have combination (I think?) skin type and I feel like a lot of foundations just look really cakey on me. hihi, resident beautician here <3 everything depends on budget if you want something on the cheaper end. i always suggest hard candy [urban decays secondary brand], kleancolor and beauty treats, i use these myself, pallets are beautiful and last a long time if used correctly. kleancolor and beauty treats can be found on here https://www.shopmissa.com/ if you want something a bit more on the expensive side, Mud is always good, we stock our professional kits with them https://www.mudshop.com/collections/eye-color-refills too faced also makes some gorgeous pallets for an indie brand i'd have to suggest http://starcrushedminerals.com/ i've been following them since they started and they just recently released a line of matte eyeshadows. i'll have to go through my collection and get some photos of my pallets for you later Photo's would be awesome! And I've not heard of a lot of the brands you've just mentioned. But I will definitely check them out.
Guest CollateralBeauty Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 also I haven't heard the name Jeffrey Star since high school. w00t I've started watching some of his Youtube videos on makeup. Now, I normally hate drama and people who like to cause a lot of drama, but for some reason he just cracks me up. I dont know how to girl. But I sincerely wished I did >< Lol That's basically me. I'm not sure how well I'm doing it though. But at least I can say I'm trying. It isn't really necessary to buy a full sized highlighter. Same goes for blush and bronzer. The drug store highlighters that I've gotten so far have not been the best. I feel like I'm having to constantly go back for more for it to even show up. I guess that's why I was asking about highlighters specifically. The Balm one you were talking about sounds really neat. I'll have to go look it up (as well as everything else that has been mentioned so far lol). And for eyeshadows, I have a few tarte one's that have been my go to. As for the beauty gurus, I've only heard of Tati so I'm going to have to check out the rest as well. Thank you so much!
LittleCelticLass Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 I need a primer that won't break the bank. I have hyperhidrosis. The moment I start to apply makeup, I start to sweat. It's not fun.
Guest Arc Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 I know so little about makeup. I try and I fail. I rarely wear more than eyeliner and mascara lol. But.... I bought the too faced sweet peach palette a while ago and I like that a lot. The packaging is so cute and it smells nice too. I like the look of a lot of their palettes and I'll probably buy more one day. I just don't use eyeshadow enough to justify buying more ._. I haven't much about Jeffery Star as a person but what I have heard isn't great, and I know a few stores here refuse to sell his stuff because they don't want to support him. If you like how it looks then I'd personally buy it anyway lol.
Guest lilprincess1703 Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 HEY!! You say you like the ABH Modern Renaissance palette?? FRIEND i have some very exciting news, I also love that palette but its so so so expensive. Makeup Revolution do any AMAZING dupe. https://www.revolutionbeauty.com/en/Revolution-Re-Loaded-Palette---Iconic-Vitality/m-5831.aspx (sfw) All or their new re-loaded palettes are dupes of lots of famous palettes, like Huda Beauty and the other ABH ones. https://www.revolutionbeauty.com/SearchResults.aspx?Search=revolution+re-loaded+palette+ (sfw) They are really good for the price IMO. £4 a palette, they blend nicely too. Not as pigmented as maybe more expensive ones, but they are great to start if you dont wanna shell out full price just ye/not sure if you'd use all the colours!!
Guest lilprincess1703 Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 Also agree about the Revlon photo finish range. I use the photo finish primer, with a couple of drops of this https://www.boots.com/no7-match-made-custom-blend-foundation-drops-10253303 (sfw) mixed in. Gives a nice light finish, not heavy at all if you dont like thick foundation. Can up the number of drops for fuller coverage if you are feeling it. Then some translucent powder over top to matteify and set it a bit. Would really recommend the primer+foundation drops combo! 1

Maybe I just haven't found the right stuff yet, but I just feel like it looks really cakey on my skin. But I will definitely look into the too faced sweet peach palette. I think it's a bonus that it smells good too. HEY!! You say you like the ABH Modern Renaissance palette?? FRIEND i have some very exciting news, I also love that palette but its so so so expensive.
