Please forgive me if this is in the wrong group. Wasn't sure if they was best suited for "general discussion" or "entertainment & media"

Questions for those interested in cosplays and comic cons, etc.

1) When was your first comic con?
2) What was your first ever cosplay? How long have you been cosplaying?
3) What would be your dream cosplay? (for those that already do or for those that haven't yet but would love to)
4) What's your inspo for con? (comic books, movies, video games, etc)

I love cosplay but I've never done it! So I'll be interested in reading some of the replies.

My first Comic Con was the MCM Comic Con back in 2008; it was not as busy then as it is today - but an amazing convention that I do suggest to anyone wanting to go to one from the UK. I love that most conventions I go to have a cosplay event - I also attend EGX (video game convention) and UKGE (Bored game convention) and both have a fantastic cosplay section, you see all sorts of things, I love it! So even though I don't cosplay, I love seeing others that do!

My dream cosplay is Sailor Venus, I've always wanted to do it and maybe one day I will :)

I've never been to comic con. It's too far away from where I live. :(

My first cosplay was as Alice (madness returns version) for a haloween party and that was... maybe 6 years ago? Woah I did not realise it had been that long. O.o I've been into cosplay since then because I had so much fun making my own outfits and going to things in them. ^^

I don't have a specific cosplay in mind but I would love to do something in latex.

I normally cosplay from video games or movies ^^

The first con I attended was in 2009.

My first cosplay was Amy from Burst Angel in 2010, though I haven’t done many cosplays since.

My dream cosplay would be Koshka), from Vainglory.

After reading this, I'm now thinking I've got the whole "cosplay" thing a bit wrong.  I thought it meant any kind of dressing up, for example wearing baby clothes.

Is cosplay strictly about dressing as a character from a comic book?

Doesn't always have to be just a comic book. It can be from your favourite movie, TV show, Video Game or any pop culture. If you really wanted to then Melanie Martinez's Crybaby could technically be a cosplay too

I don't know which one of the cons you to but I've noticed that despite the hype Lonon Con is not as great especially over the last 2 years (my friends have said previous years were way better). I personally feel like smaller cons like Birmingham MCM have more of a "cosplay community" feel but that might just be because of the numbers.

I agree that con is definitely fun but a new management has taken over MCM and made it way more expensive with way more rules

So it needs to a be a well known character, not just a general "look"?

Meaning dressing up like a little girl, Lolita, or in baby clothes isn't actually cosplay?

I thought it was, because it's like a costume i.e. not clothes I'd normally wear. Is there a name for what I'm talking about? Maybe "role play" clothes?

It doesn't even have to be "well known" it can be any character from any form of media you like. There have been people that have cosplayed characters from animes that are years old and some people still know who they are even though its not as mainstream now. Lolita still counts as a cosplay kinda, and you can even do Lolita versions of cosplay characters. Dressing in baby clothes however isn't "usually" considered cosplay but you could pass it off as a Crybaby inspired cosplay (?)

I don't really know that much about it but I guess it could be considered as roleplay clothes?

At the last con I went to (this past weekend), the cosplay stage had categories. Since it's a comic con, the majority were from comic books. Then they split them up into groups. Marvel, DC, Spider-Man & Deadpool (there were that many), Star Wars, anime/manga, movies & tv, and miscellaneous. The last group included YouTube stars, memes, musicians, original characters, and so on. There were quite a few mashups, too.

I've never been to a comic-con but I HAVE been to multiple anime-con. My first cosplay was that of the character Belarus from the anime, Hetalia (which is about what would happen if countries were people) I've also cosplayed as Nagisa from Assassination Classroom, and Mary from the rpg "Dreaming Mary"; I've also gone as a lolita. As you can see most of my inspiration comes from the anime I've watched and some videogames. As for a dream cosplay, that's a really hard one. I think a dream cosplay would be something from XXXHolic.
