Hi,

I recently started looking in to collars. This would be my first one, I'm buying for my self. Mainly because I want one, and j feel it would be a good addition to my little gear. From ones experience what would be a good first buy?...I really don't know much about what I want. But what would be a good first collar, comfortable material, style, color, type....

I have 3: a cat-like one with a bell and crystals on it that's fake leather and has snaps; a simple O ring fake leather one with your average necklace clasp; and lastly a soft and fuzzy one with the Harley Quinn "Daddy's Little Monster" logo hanging on it. And all three are black in colour. They're all pretty different from each other so I'd have to say that the Harley Quinn one is my favourite, it's definitely the comfiest(except when I sneeze and my chin goes down and it jabs my throat haha) although I must admit that the bell one is more amusing XD A great way to avoid getting lost from your caregiver:p

My collars are mostly leather bondage collars, but I also have a steel collar, a rubber collar, and a cute ribbon pet play collar. It really depends what you are after and the look you like. Some people like big chunky collars and others like smaller ones. Some people like lots of rings/attachment points and some people a single one. For me personally, my favourite are leather collars with a single ring. I have one made with a suede lining so it's super soft and comfortable to wear. But I also like my rubber collar because it warms up to my body, and I like my steel one for the weight. Materials provide different things so it depends what you like :)

I'd say think about what you want. Do you want a more traditional collar or a cute one? The ribbon collars are adorable but not always best if you'd ever have someone pulling on a leash, for example. So also think if you want it for looks or to be practical, and then check out somewhere like etsy and see if you can find something that matches the style you like and suits what you want it for.

I agree with Arc. Are you looking for functional or fashionably cute or a bit of both?  Look around Etsy, etc. and see what sparks your interest.

*Waves* Ive written this out twice and my laptop keeps spazzing out and wiping it clear before I can hit 'post' so... attempt three! :D

Collars and collaring, to me, are a very deep and meaningful symbolic aspect of the D/s and DDlg dynamic for me and Daddy. We believe that the collar is Daddy's mark of ownership of me. We believe it symbolizes our TPE and as such, my submission to Daddy.

Right now I cannot wear my collars the way I want to due to my neck issues and it really bums me out. Daddy is understanding, but I used to wear it every day. Right now Daddy has gotten me a few cheapy collars for me to wear until we get The Collar that will be on me forever. We do this because even though we haven't done an actual Collaring, we do believe in the symbolic act. We just wont officially commence the sentiment until my permanent collar is here. But, for us, Collaring is even more important than marriage. Marriage is a civil union, Collaring is me giving myself over 100% to Daddy not only in life but in my identity as well.

But Collars and Collaring mean something different for every person. It can be a cute accessory or it can be as symbolic as Daddy and I see it. But no one belief is the 'correct' way. What IS correct is what YOU believe. If you want to wear a collar, DO IT! You don't need to have a Mommy or Daddy to wear a collar. I made my own collars even before I met Daddy and wore them to help me feel little. Then when I met Daddy I just switched to wearing it at his discretion. So no matter what you feel about collars, you are correct. :)

Just another note... if you decide you like those ribbon collars and you know how to sew you can make them so much cheaper than the online stores sell them for I've made pet play collars for a lot of friends because the materials only cost a dollar or two so I didn't see the point in paying $20+ :p

Everyone has different views on collars and want different things from them and uses them for different things. I've been collared and it wasn't with a traditional collar. I often use bondage restraints so my collars are practical things, and it would look a little funny wearing a collar like that for my formal collar. I imagine I would get strange looks walking around in a big leather collar all the time. :p So I keep play collars and my collared collar seperate (if that makes any sense). It's different to everyone and there's no right or wrong way. Just whatever you want from it :)

Those are cute, but I just have to say watch out for sellers on etsy charging excessively for things they didn't even make. I used to love etsy when it was people with genuine skills selling things they had hand made, but now it's so often people gluing something onto something they paid $1 for from China and charging $50 for it. I understand people want to make money but it just doesn't sit right with me for some reason and I would rather support skilled people who have put more love and care into something. The fake leather chokers they have with the o ring are less than $2 on aliexpress, and the daddy keychain thing is $0.60, and those harnesses are $4. And I know because I have an online shopping addiction and I own those things already.... >.>

I personally would rather support someone skilled who put more into what they do if I was spending that much. But it's up to you. That's just how I am :)

I've been browsing collars a lot, however I'm holding off buying one for myself. It's silly but I'm hoping someday to find a Daddy who wants to buy one for me to wear for Him.

Anywho, there are a lot of cute collars on Pinterest that can help narrow down what you like. That was super helpful for me because I realized I like the ones made of ribbon, lace, and small metal plates with pet names. There are a ton so it can be overwhelming, but it actually helped me narrow down my preferences. I agree that going onto Etsy is a great idea when you decide to purchase one, however definitely check out the seller stores and more importantly their feedback for customers. I've seen really cute ones for $10-$15 from stores that have a ton of positive feedback from buyers.

I hope you show which one you end up buying when you get it with us here!

That's not silly at all! As has been said multiple times on this thread, a collar is whatever you want from it. If you want your first collar to be a special thing shared with a Daddy that he has gifted you then that's what you want and it's not silly. Some people want play collars for themselves, others want bondage ones, and others want it to be that really special first time thing. It's just what you want, and people want different things but that doesn't make what someone else wants silly :)

Hi guys,

So I found the perfect collar. Though the picture is to big for me to post from my phone. It a blue collar with little bones all over and it's pretty big on me. I decided I would go with a regular basic collar for my first one. I'm working on getting a tag engraved with my name on it.

I'm so so sooooo picky with my collars! I love them and feel weird not wearing one now. I found a lot of them were horribly overpriced so I taught myself to make my own ribbon collars. I buy a big roll of the poly/nylon strap stuff and make them all tug proof! It's sooooo easy. If you see yourself getting addicted and you like to change your looks a lot.. diy them!! You can make 5 for the price you'll pay for 1

I make my own collars because I hate that most are simple and black. I use lots of cute elements but I also buy my webbing and rings from a livestock company meaning I can wear my collars frequently without irritation to my skin and they have very high tension strength. Here's one I made today :3 https://imgur.com/a/3lYRFtl sfw
