I know that as a child, I used to do this pretty often, but as an adult I don't do it anymore. I don't really know what was the trigger for me to stop doing that though.

As for me wanting to stop. I don't think i wanted to stop it. :D Like with any (bad) habits, we often do them more or less subconciously and it takes time and the right mindset to control and overcome them.

If you want to stop, my advice would be the same as with any addiction. Start by realizing that even when it seems like you don't have any control over it, you and you alone are fully responsible for your actions. With that mindset, and by going step by step, any addiction or bad habit can be overcome.

Also, don't be discourgaged by small setbacks, like you finding yourself biting your nail after few weeks of stopping. It's quite normal.

Yes. Instead of using scissors or a nail clipper to cut them I bite them off. Cleanly. They look just as good as they would if I cut them :) I know nail biting can get pretty ugly if done excessively. Best way to stop I guess is finding what's causing it, be it stress, boredom, fear or whatever and work on that. In the meantime get something to chew on or bite, a healthy replacement, whatever that might be for you.

I can't imagine biting my nails because even touching your face is a way to spread any germs on your hands and get a virus (throwing up......cries) or the flu or even a cold, much less putting your fingers in your mouth randomly. Maybe think of that next time you want to do it. Yep, I'm a germaphobe. :D

The best way I have found to stop biting my nails is just simply to stop cold turkey, because I haven't found another way that works. I have tried what Raw suggested, by finding a healthy replacement to chew on, but there is one thing I noticed with it. The second I lose that alternative (it usually was gum, and it became a quick money pit), I go back to my nails in full force. So while it's hard, I just have to stop and stay vigilant. Once it gets passed three weeks, it usually gets a lot easier and better.

I had the habit of biting the skin around my nails... it was becoming unsightly and bothered me quite a bit.. i found the only way to stop was to get my nails done. I don't (not anymore lol) do over the top lengths but just a basic overlay over my nails made me completely stop picking at the skin... the other plus is that my nails now always look well manicured lol

For me it was a nervous/boredom thing.. now i just try to focus that energy on crafts or fixing the house with Daddy.

I used to but I don't anymore. I've started getting my nails done somewhat regularly and I use SNS dip nail. With that, I can't really bite my nails off.

I have sense I was little..

But now I only bite my nails when I get stressed or nervous.

I won't even notice I am doing it then all of a sudden Daddy will take my hands and push them down carefully.

It's kinda embarrassing because my nails look pretty stupid because of it heh..

I bite my nails but only when they get too long. I get too lazy to go get the scissors so I just bite them, Just as effective :D
