It's kind of like writing a book, except instead of the story being written by one person, it's written by a character/characters in that story, which are roles played by real people.

 

Edit: here is the intro from my most recent roleplay.

-I open the front door of my house, carrying the groceries I just purchased to the kitchen and closing the door behind me. I hum as I start putting things away, but stop suddenly when I hear a noise out back. Thinking it might be someone trying to break in, I grab a bat and fling the back door open, ready to swing, but don't see anyone. I hear the noise again and look down, gasping when I see an adorable little kitten scratching around in the dirt-

Nah, totally not for me. Real life is plenty interesting and entertaining enough for me! Plus i just don't have the energy or imagination to play that kind of game, or feel right putting on an act. It wouldn't feel natural, and would not be at all enjoyable.
