Adding rhinestones to a pacifier

Recommended Posts

Hey!!!

I am planning to add some flat back rhinestones to a pacifier I got. What’s the best way to attach them? Super glue? TYIA!

Some paci makers use Gem-Tac glue because it's non-toxic.  I use E6000 glue because it's the strongest crafting glue and it holds the best. It does have a stronger smell/fumes but it dries non-toxic.  I don't know if Super Glue will hold long term.

Most pacifiers are shiny and have smooth surfaces which means the glue has nothing to bond to, so you need something really strong. I'd say E6000 is your best bet. Super glue might work but I wouldn't trust it long term, because again, smooth surface with nothing to bond to. :/

Take a Dremel tool or a file/sand paper to scratch the surface first! everything will adhere better.

Avoid anything that contains cyanoacrylate, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), or any resin based adhesive. Polyvinyl acetate (PVA) is generally recognized as safe but like Letsgoforanadventure mentioned you'll need to rough up the surface with sandpaper or another abrasive first. You might wanna go for an emery board over sandpaper as some sandpaper is made with aluminum oxide but I seriously doubt it would transfer enough of the abrasive to cause an issue.

Here they are

Wow, they're so pretty! You did a great job there :)

What did you use and are the pacis still washable though? I'm curious because I want to embellish some of mine.

I used the e6000 glue for jewelry recommended by baby peach and arc :) I then used super glue for the buttons, though I used an Emory board to tough up the surface of both the bottoms and the paci first. Not 100% sure the hold will stick for those Though. I don’t think I could run them through a dishwasher or anything, but I can wash the part that goes in your mouth just fine and it doesn’t seem to bother the bond if they get a little wet (the rhinestones)
