Guest Angelsdolly Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Hello loves So since i was a child, i have always wanted a real wooden doll house, but never got the chance to have it. I want to start this project finally, after 15 years. I thought i would make all my dreams come true! I kind of need help though, so i thought there might be a chance where someone has one/built one themselves, that can give me some tips on where to buy dollhouse stuff, paint, where to get wood for this specific project? Anyways, here are some pics with ideas. ^.^ http://i68.tinypic.com/35akeht.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/t7h083.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/1zv6dcz.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/2u8v48p.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/28jiqg8.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/25i88dv.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/347v28o.jpg _
Mr. Grinch Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Well first thing first you need to draw out your dollhouse in a skecth and decide on dimensions. For a craft like this you could probably get all the supplies needed at the local hobby shop or a a lumber yard. How familiar are you with power tools? A hot glue gun?

Drawing for me is not the best, but i suppose i should just use a ruler u.u We have a place called hobby lobby here, though their selection isn't the best. I figured i would probably just end up buying it all online. I can use a drill, and have a hot glue gun right here on my desk lol. It's just the wood part, they don't sell small pieces of wood at home depot. Or lowes. So i guess i would need to saw stuff, and i am so afraid.
Guest SUeB Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Can't help you, but they are so pretty. It's a lovely project. Good luck with it
Guest McLeodLot65 Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 What's your budget? There are some lovely kits, either direct through the manufacturer or through a place like amazon (ie https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2/144-1037043-9459634?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=dollhouse+kits)- you still have to put them together, but that can be fun, too.

Guest Ignea Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 i am very curious to see it complete, looks real massive on the pics tho , and pretty. Me i would like to build someday a dollhouse so a little could enjoy it, but indeed there are kits who arent that hard to build up. Now my question is can it be done as a "gazebo"in the garden
Guest Lace and bows Posted November 2, 2017 Report Posted November 2, 2017 I know how I feel I've always wanted one to ,they're so pretty!!!
shadowrider Posted November 2, 2017 Report Posted November 2, 2017 Hi Angelsdolly , Hobby Lobby does offer kits online. I think Amazon and Ebay will be cheaper and have a larger selection though. You can probably find a kit close to what you want and modify it easier than building from scratch, though I like the idea of scratch built. Most of your small pieces from thinner wood can be cut using a razor knife instead of a saw, it may take longer but its whatever method you are more comfortable with that counts. If you are looking to avoid cutting altogether I would say check with your local high school or junior high shop teacher. If they aren't willing to help they may have a student that can help you out. Also you may find a local woodworker that will help in return for you letting them post pics of their contributions to their site or FB page. Their are some really talented people in your area when it comes to woodworking. The main thing is have fun. Keep us updated please as you progress.
Guest Urthurs Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 I'm a woodworker and have made a few model replicas of building. I would suggest that you look for "foam core board". Architects use it to make models. It's very easy to use. You can just cut it with a sharp knife and glue it together. A thicker board should be able to hold up the house. Once you have the base of the house made you could just add smaller wood details.
Guest JayRingo77 Posted November 11, 2017 Report Posted November 11, 2017 I would start off with a kit and play around with the experience of working with the materials and use it as an assessment of your construction skills. See what holds up to your style of play and fits the scale of your friends and their loved ones. Nothing is more frustrating than to have feet hanging off the end of the bed! There are also a lot of resources on YouTube that can teach you how to take everyday objects and modify them into amazing furniture, fixtures, and landscaping. Have fun!
