TwilightSparklez Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 So we are all prepping for Hurricane Irma in South Florida and I was wondering if anyone could suggest some activities to do when there is no electricity. So far I have coloring and board games but I don't know beyond that. I would also be interested in some board game suggestsions. Thankies! PS: I have done the important prep already, food, water, lights, first aid etc...
RainbowBritetheDestroyer Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I'm in the Tampa Bay Area and am more than a bit scared.

Guest ~*~Sachita~*~ Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 Hey Sparklez, I'll be thinking about you! Geez, be safe! There is a good chance the power will go out. I would totally make a fort in the living room or any secure room in the house. So it feels double safe? And then gather all of your snacks and stuffys and only let awesome people come in there with you. It might be kind of late, but next time? SMORES
RainbowBritetheDestroyer Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 I'm all ready and loaded up on supplies, just not sure how I'll pass the time. Thanks Sparkles
RainbowBritetheDestroyer Posted September 5, 2017 Report Posted September 5, 2017 I'm just afraid of losing our roof. This is a powerful storm.

SMORES Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions blanket forts rock and with how scary this storm is starting to get I love the idea of comfy security. @Rainbowbritethedestroyer think of it this way, South Florida will take the brunt and it will be weaker when it gets to you. But definitely take Sachita's suggestion of blanket fort.
RainbowBritetheDestroyer Posted September 6, 2017 Report Posted September 6, 2017 That's for certain Stay safe Sparklez!
shadowrider Posted September 6, 2017 Report Posted September 6, 2017 I lost my house in Andrew so I know what you're feeling. Here are a few ideas I hope they help some. The main thing is stay safe. Fun things: Buy oranges, grapefruit, or lemons and cooking oil and if the power goes out make lanterns out of them. There are plenty of vids out there on this. They are fun and will last for hours. Set them in a pie pan with a little water if you are afraid they will turn over. Sterno or any type of canned jellied fuel can be used for roasting marshmallows and making smores. Pick up a book of short stories and have story time. You can also give people parts and act them out. Play the Last Letter Game, we used to do this at work using actors names and bands and anything else we could think of to pass time. Glow in the dark bubbles can be fun for littles and kids when the power is out, and it never hurts to have glow sticks handy. Essential things Put tape across your windows in case they do break the glass will be less likely to fly everywhere. The less cleanup after a storm the better. Everyone thinks about drinking water but if the pumps go down due to city wide power outages you will still need to flush the toilet. When the storm starts getting close fill the tub and sinks with water. Use a bowl or pitcher to take water from the tub and fill the tank so you can still use the bathroom. Make sure you fill your vehicles with gas before the storm. If you have to evacuate you do not want to be looking for a station. And if power is out a while you will need gas. If you have a gas bbq, fill your tanks. I was without power for over a week and my crawfish rigs served all my cooking needs. If you have room in your freezer fill water bottles and stick them in there. If power is out it will help save your food that much longer. Also an ice chest is a life saver when it comes to keeping all your food from spoiling when the power is out. And adds to the camping feel.
TwilightSparklez Posted September 6, 2017 Author Report Posted September 6, 2017 Thanks @shadowrider for all the great ideas, definitely looking for glow in the dark bubbles and videos for the lanterns on youtube and sorry all that happened to you in Andrew.
Guest sunnybaby Posted September 6, 2017 Report Posted September 6, 2017 I really like puzzles. (Just stocked up from the dollar store. This hurricane is gonna be nuts.)
RainbowBritetheDestroyer Posted September 6, 2017 Report Posted September 6, 2017 My Daddy and I have a few board games, a deck of cards and l plan to get a few more coloring books and some short story collections so we'll be okay. I'm worried our Dog and two Cats are going to be terrified though. Still, They and I will have lots of Daddy snuggles to keep us calm
shadowrider Posted September 6, 2017 Report Posted September 6, 2017 For the glow in the dark bubbles just break a glow stick then cut it open and pour it in regular bubble stuff from the store and shake it up. And thanks but I have lived through quite of few of them. Whatever we live through helps shape and define us so I am glad for all the rough times, they helped make me who I am.
