For the paranoid net user

Hay was just thinking of something I love about this site. If someone happened to be looking over my shoulder they would probably have no idea what its about. I'm very paranoid about people finding out about this side of myself and hate that so many sites are so obvious.

So was wondering for the other paranoid net users how do you keep things private? This is what I do:

Use the mobile versions of sites ( they are normally far more discreet)

Use incognito mode on chrome so I don't have to worry about deleting histories

Use multiple emails ( seriously I have lost count of how many emails I have)

Never give out my real name on public forums ( Yes I am that paranoid and I'm not even talking about full names I wont even give out my first name publicly)

Multiple emails

never show my full face (this is a new rule, I've posted partials before and it made me too worried)

shop out freckles and other identifying factors in my skin if I post a picture of myself (though I unfortunately forget to do this)

never discuss location in a permanent way (like I wouldn't post it on a topic, but I could discuss it in chat)

never give my full first name

don't wear certain pieces of jewelry in picture that I always wear

take pictures from places that I haven't posted on other blogs so there's no intersection

Post on both blogs at similar times so it looks like it's two different people running them

I used to keep my things incognito when I had a room mate who would use my phone

Sometimes just having too many followers and re blogs will scare me, so even if I have a well developed blog with several thousand followers I'll just up and delete all of my personal posts and pictures and then delete my whole blog with out warning.

I wish I wasn't such an anxious scaredy cat lol

For now, I normally just weave my actual last name through various things. I removed my last name from facebook, only have 2 family members added, and generally keep my online presence seperate.

I do have a counter question though, if you don't mind me asking: What is it that you're so paranoid about? I understand not involving outside people in your lifestyle which is totally fine. But why are we discussing ways that we avoid getting outed? This is coming from somebody who knows full well about the consequences of being outed at random.

I have my own laptop and it's password protected, so I never need to worry about histories or anything like that. If anyone comes by I just shut my laptop lid and then it password locks, so thankfully I have no such worries! :)

I have my own laptop to but for some reason I'm still too scared :p

I know my real first name can be found online, but I chose to go by Xia as I have for years. Even so, I'm super careful to keep the full username my nickname came from, and my Etsy shop name (which is very similar) seperate enough that google likely wouldn't pull he link for other things up by searching my Etsy name.

Other than that, I'm not super cautious.

I wouldn't say I'm overly cautious, but I absolutely don't give out my last name because it's a really unusual one. If people wanted to try reeeally hard and read through my whole tumblr they could probably pick up context clues about what state we live in but I've tried to keep things on the vague side for both our sakes.

Daddy isn't as uptight about nudity as I am (I just posted a really cute picture of his butt the other day :p), but my only guideline for my own body is no full body nudes. I can deal with pictures of my face or of my princess parts, but no pics of my princess parts and face in the same photo.

  • I have no fear of using my first name because it's so common.. David.. there it's out there along with a gazillion other Davids.

I use multiple email accounts, I too have lost track of some of them because I had so many.

I don't use my face in profile pics, just some avatar I find appropriate.   I do have my face in my Skype profile, but all my contacts are people I know and trust.

I do secure my laptop with a password

I do use Chrome in incognito mode when visiting forums like this.

For me it's the same as RPcat, I use my first name with people I'm comfortable with online, usually not my last name unless for professional goals (LinkedIn and sites like that), but I wouldn't give out any personal information on this site apart from anything really general. I'm not worried about my browser history, but only one of my friends (and my daddy of course) knows that I'm into DD/lg, and I'd like it to stay that way unless I decide to tell someone personally. So I keep my 'big' life separated from my little life.

I'm usually not too paranoid when it comes to the internet in general, though I did take some time to delete all of the old internet accounts that I could find. Though that's mostly because I want to start creating a professional image for myself and I don't want any MySpace-accounts that I may have created when I was 16 associated with it :p

I definitely have concerns about being found online especially by prospective employers so I make sure I keep all of my accounts separate and I have a "junk" email that I use for personal accounts and then a work email too. I also try not to post definitive locations on my tumblr and not to link back to anywhere that I am showing where I live like the city or anything. I also run checks through google to see what comes up when you put in my email/name etc and see what I need to fix based on what comes up but nothing that could be a problem is there. I also use a slight variation on my name on facebook so that it makes it harder for people to find me it I don't want to be found.

It's most for employment things like I said I wouldn't want my boss to see my tumblr or that I am on a DD/lg forum because they might not see it in such a good light.
