Himedere-Chan Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 I've been wondering since season 1 why there aren't any Gems that go by any other pronoun besides female ones and so many people brush it off as either it's easier this way or it would ruin the shows narrative, but it wouldn't hurt the story at all, it would be cool even to see a Gem get cast out and rebel diamonds to be who they want to be, or if they keep this desire a secret for fear of being imprisoned for thinking differently.Random and unimportant topic, but I was curious and bored and in my mind there can and is a Gem out there that goes by something other than her.
Guest Bunnyblossom Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) It's just cuz the creator prefers making female characters. It's just about how she wants to tell the story. There's no big meaning behind it. Edit: Like I would way rather draw a bunch of magical girls than have to draw dudes. Edited May 26, 2017 by MilkPop
Guest ☽ ᴍᴏɴᴏᴄᴇʀᴏs ☾ Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 The gems have no gender, they communicate in a language other than English. Steven uses female pronouns with them because he sees them as women. So it is a little impossible that there is a transsexual gem for example, since they have no gender.
Himedere-Chan Posted May 26, 2017 Author Report Posted May 26, 2017 The gems have no gender, they communicate in a language other than English. Steven uses female pronouns with them because he sees them as women. So it is a little impossible that there is a transsexual gem for example, since they have no gender. The Gems have no gender because they are advance AI or aliens, the creator has conformed they are AI though. Anyway I know they have no gender, but they go by she so that's a gender, they identify as female so they are female just like if a trans said they are X but are Y then they are X instead cause they said so, I hope that made sense to you. I never mentioned transgender to begin with since the Gems don't have a gender, but non-gendered people usually go by they or it so why she instead if they are genderless (mentally) they choose female for their own reasons so to me they are female and if they can decide an identity of that of a female one could decide to pick male, it's not impossible at all. MilkPop, you have a point by the way. It's still just a thought of mine and I don't want to demand her to change something to peek my interest, I just want to make my opinion known and technically male Gem fan art isn't non-canon if you think about it.
Guest ☽ ᴍᴏɴᴏᴄᴇʀᴏs ☾ Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 I believe, in the case of pearl, garnet and amethyst, they simply accept the pronoun "She" because of Rose (this is just a theory) since she is the mother of Steven, and to "die" they somehow take The role of mothers. I do not say that they could well take the role of father, but the gems knew relatively little about the coexistence of humans, and his father was Greg. So really until Steven started to call themselves "she," I do not think they really have a gender-based conscience, since they are gems and they do not reproduce and their concerns, especially in homewold, are other things. Other than that, I do not see strange that there is an alien race completely made up of women, if they are not born of a sexual reproduction. It's like MilkPop says, it's just as the author decided to express her work. It is such that there are animes where there are no male characters, not even as secondary but they are implicit in that they exist in the world, as K-on (??. Maybe there are gems that look more masculine but are simply not what Rebecca shows us. I do not know, as a non-binary person, I really do not like to break my head with these kinds of issues, and the decisions that artists make or not make about their work. It's just what there is, and it's a take or leave it. As everything in life.
Chibibabyk Posted May 28, 2017 Report Posted May 28, 2017 The gems are genderless and although usually go by she, espically when Steven is addressing them, when amythest wrestles goes by he. I personally think it's for the sake of simplicity to children that they all go by she but have in occasion shown that it's rather unimportant.
