little_melody Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 hey guys, was hoping you could give your opinions on something I've been experiencing...I've always been a sleepy person, I have always loved taking naps & get super grumpy if I don't get at least 8 hours sleep... However, sometimes I experience these times where I'm fine then next second I am EXTREMELY tired, like I need to go to sleep right that second. I could fall asleep standing up during these times, I feel like I have to fight really hard to keep away but all I can think about is taking a nap.. my eyes keep closing even tho i try to keep them open.. It's becoming disruptive because I have long classes at uni and sometimes I feel like that during them.. I walk around, I drink water, I talk to people but even then, I feel like I could fall asleep while I'm talking to someone or walking around! I also feel kinda disorientated, light headed and that I shouldn't move to fast... but the strongest feeling is that I need to just nap right then and there... Can anyone shed some light into what this might be? If it is anything... maybe it's normal? Thanks xox
Strawberry Sprinkles Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 When I was talking about my insomnia to my doctor, she asked if I did some of those things. My advice? Go see your doctor! It definitely sounds like there could be a underlying problem (especially because she asked if I got sleepy randomly or during conversation heh)..

It definitely sounds like there could be a underlying problem (especially because she asked if I got sleepy randomly or during conversation heh).. I have an issue with doctors I haven't been able to find one that actually listens to me... I don't have time to waste on trying different doctors that won't take me seriously.. You are right though, if it gets worse I'll have to find someone!
Nymph Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 If you are not too eager about doctors because they don't listen you should go to a lab and have yourself checked for anemia and just vitamins in general before you go to the doctor. They will dismiss you less easily if you went to the lab first even if your results are ok. It could be you are not getting enough rest at night even if you are staying in bed for 8hrs, could be stress or maybe just burned out from school. Perhaps you are not drinking enough water or something else. Once you know what it is you can fix it when you see it coming, if it is something that will come back at all. Hell it could be seasonal allergies or you developing an allergy to gluten or something that is fogging your mind and making you tired. You really won't know until you see a doctor. 1
Mommy~Eugenia Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 Probably insomnia or something it seems. My girl friends the same and that's what she has
Ink Posted June 11, 2017 Report Posted June 11, 2017 Late to the party on this one but going to reply just in case its of use to you. You've described the symptoms that I was experiencing prior to being diagnosed with sleep apnea - essentially you wake up for a number of possible reasons throughout the night and never or rarely achieve REM sleep. It's very common, but many people will go their entire lives undiagnosed because they have it very minor forms. There is a very short quiz that my doctor had me take (like 10 questions) that might be worth a quick google. Asks things like if you feel tired at work/school, how often, does it ever happen whilst driving etc. If you answer like 3 or more of them then you likely have a problem. That can then lead to a sleep study if its definitely a problem For me, it was a noticeable problem whenever I was a passenger in a car. Driving I was fine because my mind knew I had to focus, but being a passenger would put me to sleep and I could not resist it no matter how recently I had awoken. During the study we found I woke up 28 times an hour which is crazy! Anyway - definitely worth looking into. If you've always had this problem you may not actually know what its like to have a 'normal' nights sleep.
