Guest Beards_for_Weirds Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 Does anyone else use poetry as an outlet for negative emotions? It's helped me a lot during some low points in my life. I'd be interested in reading some poetry from other people who use it as an outlet. Here is an example of one of my mine. (WARNING: POSSIBLE TRIGGER) My arms, covered in scars,Enough to outnumber the stars. My legs, rotting to the bone,With each step they quiver and groan. My heart, no longer pumps blood,In my veins travels rusty mud.My voice is but a rasp,I cannot even manage a gasp.My eyes now clearly see the lies,Happiness is but a guise.I may have had emotions once,Accompanied by the usual grandiloquence. But now, I am nothing but an empty shell,Simply waiting to hear my knell. 1
Guest thepoet Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 I find poetry to be an amazing source of catharsis. I find that pushing myself to articulate an emotion or idea on paper forces me to confront and address the underlying source of the issue. When I've successfully finished writing a song or poem, it's like the weight has been lifted. Furthermore, when the feelings rise again and begin to overwhelm me, I can go back and read my work to set things back in perspective. 2
Guest Cuppycakelol Posted May 19, 2017 Report Posted May 19, 2017 I do occasionally but mine used to be very... dark I also use writing stories as a coping mechanism.
