I felt very much the same as you. Having someone care for my well being made me feel safe and cared for. I did have a caregiver actually abuse that bond though and now I think I am done with relationships (at least for now)

So word of warning be very careful who you trust.

It makes or breaks on the back of your caregiver. Someone who really cares can alleviate a lot of emotional stress. Someone who doesn't can make it worse.

I'm a caregiver with a rough mentally and physically abusive past and it gives me nightmares but whenever I have a little I have less nightmares

That's a tough question and I'm no psychologist, so this is just my opinion. People and even animals, like to feel safe and secure. That feeling of safety and security makes us relax and not as tense. For example, most people feel more comfortable with a blanket when they sleep, it gives them that feeling of safety. It's why children pull their blankets over their heads when they are scared. So I would think you feel less anxiety and stress when you're with a caregiver, because he provides that safety blanket for you. But, as others have said, you need to be very careful that you're caregiver doesn't abuse that responsibility. Just my .02 cents.

Psychologically, everyone reacts and deals with trauma in different ways.  You may naturally have better coping mechanisms than someone who might have gone through the exact same situation.   I've been emotional abused and still have issues with it from time to time.

I personally think that it's a blessing of this lifestyle as a little.  To be able to have so much trust in your CG that the effects of trauma lessen.  If you find a CG that helps remove those nasty traumatic effects of your past, hold on to that.  That's a blessing.
