BabyKittenPaws Posted April 20, 2017 Report Posted April 20, 2017 My favorite sippy cup has mold in the straw (ewh). I guess daddy didn't wash it well, has anyone else had this happen and how did you clean your sippy cup
Guest Candy Minx ♡ Posted April 20, 2017 Report Posted April 20, 2017 I don't really use sippy cups, just more adult stuff with lids and straws. I've never personally had mold in a straw as an issue but I think google would offer many right away and sometimes better answers for stuff like this vs this forum. But I'd suggest maybe cleaning it yourself so you KNOW it's clean. That's what I do with my favorite drinking things. 2
CrazyLittleBuggaBoo Posted April 20, 2017 Report Posted April 20, 2017 Soak in HOT water! Risen in HOT water! Then wash with warm water and soap. You can boil them like you would to clean and sanitize a pacifier. You might want to get a baby bottle brush like this; This one comes with a special little brush for the nipple that can also work to clean out spouts, many different brands have these kinds of packs. But because cause not every bottle brush will come with the nipple brush. I've been actually meaning to get myself a pack like this. You can also just buy nipple cleaner brushes on their own. 3

alotalittle Posted April 20, 2017 Report Posted April 20, 2017 Along with using a small brush to get into the crevices of the sippy cup top or straw, I advise soaking the cup in white vinegar a couple times a month too. That should help prevent any mold from growing. I use white vinegar to clean out my coffee machine, dishwasher, humidifier, and my daily-use green cup (with straw). Depending on the item, I may use vinegar anywhere from once a week to once every few months. After I clean/soak with vinegar, I make sure to wash well with warm water and soap. Another thing to keep in mind is that certain brands of sippy cups are more prone to mold than others due to their designs. Reading reviews on the brand you buy can help prevent you from getting one more prone to mold. 1
1FinePieceofAce Posted April 20, 2017 Report Posted April 20, 2017 i 2nd what alotalittle added. we wash my sippies and crazy straws in a water + white vinegar solution and make sure to shaaaake the water out of the cuppies and straws that hold moisture. i like to dry my cuppies in the window before i put them away, mold hates sunshine and the heat evaporates all the water inside. oh, and always buy extra straws! 1

BabyKittenPaws Posted April 21, 2017 Author Report Posted April 21, 2017 (edited) Vinegar is a good idea, I sometimes use it to clean and I put it on pimples xc I also read that pipe cleaners can be used to clean out straws, I might try that! Edited April 21, 2017 by BabyKittenPaws

gymfit Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 You can clean it easily with some methylated spirits by soaking it, just make sure you wash it afterwards
Princess-P Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 I used to clean my daughters straws with a pipe cleaner. Small brushes never fit down the straw.
