Strawberry Sprinkles Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 (edited) I went to the salon with my mother half asleep (my first mistake). I had bleached my hair a while back and knew it needed some split ends cut so I wanted a trim and my bang to be re-cut. My hairstylist insisted all that hair was dead and need to go. I reluctantly agreed and she preceded to snip off six inches of hair (when I started, my hair was almost past my waist).. I knew it had to be done at some point. I didn't think it was as bad as she said, but I had planned to get it done in the future. She's cutting my hair, asking how I wanted my bangs, and then piped up "do you want to frame your face" I said sure. It's kind of cute and I wear ponytails a lot and I'd like a few ringlets to frame my face. During and after the cut, she kept asking if I wanted my hair blow dryed. I thought that was odd. Usually they only ask once but this girl asked at least five or six times. Like, no! I don't want it blow dried... Now I know why she kept asking. I think she wanted to fix her mistake. When I got off work and looked into a mirror, I couldn't believe it. She didn't "frame my face." I started to have an anxiety attack. Her definition of "framing my face" was cutting the first half of my hair shoulder length (uneven and unblended), and leaving the back long (now a little longer than mid back). This was a female version of a mullet! Needless to say, I started to have an anxiety attack. All the screaming, sobbing, and puking were involved. Did I mention I've been growing my hair out for eight years and it's very much one of the few factors that hold together my excuse of self esteem? Everyone tells you to find a feature that made you feel pretty and my hair was mine. I'm a little calmer now and felt like I needed a space to vent and ask for help. I mean... how do I fix a mullet without cutting off the rest of the length? The thought makes my eyes burn all over again. TL/DR Spent eight years growing out my very long hair almost past my waist. I went to the salon today first thing in the morning for a trim and my hairstylist thought it'd be cute to "frame my face" and then came home with a female mullet that starts at shoulder length. I need some ideas on how to manage this nightmare without cutting the rest of the length. p.s. I feel a bit silly for such a dramatic title now, but it really is awful and I feel awful. I really appreciate it. I'll give it a fair shot when I feel better. 1
LittleAlienGirl Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Same thing happened to me, but my goat chewed off my hair and left me with a female mullet! My sister had to cut my hair as both sides were uneven (she chewed one half of my hair to behind my ear!!), but only as a last resort.f it's only uneven enough that you have to cut off a little, that's great! If I could see your face shape and hair, I'd definitely find you a cute style. But since I don't know, here's some cute hairstyles. If you can't get it styled just yet, I'd suggest somebody picking you up a cute beanie in the meantime. It keeps a lot of attention off! Hope you feel better soon, and whatever you pick will be absolutely adorable! 1
Strawberry Sprinkles Posted March 22, 2017 Author Report Posted March 22, 2017 (edited) Oh my goodness. I'm afraid me and that goat might have to share a few words. At least goats are cute (as is peridot). Um, I have a few picture on my profile but here's one of me at this moment. As a daycare teacher I can't wear hats so no beanies for me. But it's long enough that I can just throw it up in a ponytail ... for a long time. Heh. Sadly my face is very round so short hairstyles aren't flattering in the slightest. I have some pictures here on my profile and gallery. Edited March 22, 2017 by Strawberry Sprinkles
Guest Umi Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 I'm so sorry your hair didn't turn out the way you wanted. :< It's so upsetting when that happens! Since you mentioned you wear ponytails a lot, do you like updos? There are a lot of cute braided hairstyles that might disguise the varied lengths and look adorable on you! I had an incident with hair breakage awhile back and found that tucking the uneven ends into a french braid completely hid them! I don't know how comfortable you'd be with this, but it might also be worth seeing if a different stylist could touch up some of the areas you're unhappy with without cutting too much more off. Wishing you the best and hope you feel better <3
cuppycakes Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 The thing I first thought of was to layer your hair. Lots of layers. Then it could look natural, and you wouldn't have to take much off of the length. There's also ways to cut your own hair at home. I have very long hair as well, and I've used this (SFW) method before. It won't give you crazy layers (and the nice thing about cutting your hair at home is that you decide how much you want cut. You can start with half an inch, see how it looks, and keep going until you like it. It might take a way longer time, but it works and you won't ever be surprised at how short it is). There's also other videos online if you don't like this method. (side note: I loved the "updos" and "try something new" ideas as well.) I'm sorry this happened to you, and I completely understand where you're coming from. My friend always had the longest hair in our friend-circle, and always got compliments on it. One day she cut it all off (like to her ears), and now she still looks super cute and amazing. Your hair may give you confidence, but it doesn't define who you are. She's still the same person, even with 30 inches cut off. And you are, too. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Hair grows back, even if it takes a little while. Good luck! ♥
PrincessAurora Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 As a hair stylist. What that girl did pisses me off. She sounds fresh out of school and instead of admitting that she messed up and offering you a solution she tried to hide it. First things first. Call the salon and speak to the manager about the situation they may offer you a free service to fix it. It will also let them know this girl needs to be ether retrained or assisting before being allowed to work on a client again. If you don't mind me asking. May I see some photos of what was done to the hair. (You can add and message me if you don't feel comfortable posting them publicly). I'd like to try and help you find a style that will hide what the other stylist did and bring your confidence back up. If you do return to that salon. Request if you see her there to not be placed with that stylist. Ask for a new one. We work hard to build trust between our selves and our clients. 1
Guest jjangyi Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Aww I had a bad haircut too, the other day. I described the cut that I wanted to the hairstylist and I realized halfway through that she misunderstood what I meant but I'm too scared to speak up. I hated it sooo much at the time and I cried a lot after I went home but now I've accepted it and even think it doesn't look that bad on me. I agree with others, maybe you could style it up?
