First Tattoo Tips?!

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I'm flying interstate to get my first tattoo the day after >.<
However I'm very nervous, I was supposed to be meeting up with daddy but due to work he can't be there so this is the first time I'm flying alone!
Have any littles gotten tattoos or traveled alone that could give me some comfort tips? Also anyone else who has any ideas on what I should bring with me etc.
Thanks xo

I'm not a little but I highly suggest you pay close attention to what they tell you to clean it with and they say keep ointment on it 3-5 times a day for 2 weeks I did it an extra 2 days it may peel a little bit but don't freak out it's normal I got mine done on December 28th and I love it oh and I applied ointment 3 times a day but if it's cold do it more often and wear loose fitting shirts so it's a perfect excuse to raid daddy's closet I hope this helps and good luck

Bring a picture ID!!! I'm sure with flying, you'll need one, but i've never flown. Your tattoo area will be inflamed and probably a little sore the first day or two (especially in a sensitive area like your wrist or foot). I used A&D ointment (brand not important) the first three days (washing every three hours and reapplying). If the ointment looks milky on your skin, you've added too much (you want the sheen, but your skin still needs to breathe). Unscented regular lotion is what you want to use after the ointment (whichever brand).

For your trip itself, maybe bring a few coloring books and a stuffed animal to keep in your carry on?

Make sure to take a drink to the studio. Make sure it's got a decent amount of sugar and a straw is preferable. You wanna make sure that you keep your sugar levels up during it or it'll make you feel light headed and dizzy. Also make damn sure you eat first

Like Georgia Daddy said (I'm also not a little), don't freak out if the ink looks like it's peeling. My guy didn't tell me that, and it looked like the ink was coming out. I got so angry I went back, and another guy explained that's normal. You may need to get a touch up after it heals, especially with red and black. Mine has a lot of red, and they explained that sometimes it's hard to tell if they've put red or if the skin is red.

And as a heads up, any pain/discomfort isn't as bad as you think it will be. We build it up and get nervous. After they start, you'll be fine. If you have an mp3 player or something like that, bring it along. (Or if they have wifi, you can stream something.) It can get boring. :)

And take lots of pictures. You'll be glad you did!

Thank you so much to everyone!

I brought my monkey George with me & he is already making me feel better :3 I will pay close attention to what they say about healing, will probably get them to write it down too. Got heaps of anime to watch during the session, great advice thanks everyone xox

Usually, they will give you an aftercare sheet, so don't worry too much about that. Just remember that unscented soap or lotion is your friend! No fake scents on your sensitive skin!

Don't worry about watching something, the best idea is to actually talk to your tattoo artist. Most of them are amazing. i have 6 tattoos and every one healed differently.

Remember, it will hurt. But that's ok. Embrace the hurt. Learn the lesson from the hurt. Leave with something beautiful.

Don't let anybody "set your ink" it's a mean joke where someone slaps your new tattoo.

Not only would that hurt you, but I've seen the damage it can cause your tattoo.

Lotion is your new best friend, take it with you. Use it often. You will peel, even if you use lotion like every hour.

Don't worry so much about peeling and flaking, just don't pick at it when this happens. You can cover it with gauze if you want too.

They usually do this for you right after you get it. But to keep it safe while healing up((if your working or something)) you can

use lotion and gauze to help keep it safe. Just remember that fresh air is important to healing. When I got mine one my hip, I'd use gauze while working to keep my pants from rubbing, peeling and flaking away the ink. But would take it off when I got home.

Before: Realize certain parts of your body are more sensitive to pain (sternum/ribs vs. arms).

After: Your tattoo is a wound, treat it as such to avoid infection. Moisturize, avoid sun. google is your friend

I've only gotten one tattoo. I was 19, so it was 12 years ago. It's a biblical passage in Greek, and its on chest so people can only see it if I show them.

My advice is to get something that really inspies you. I knew I wanted something that would make me feel sophisticated, so I searched around online for passages from classical Greek and Roman culture until I found something I'd enjoy explaining to people
