Guest lil-kitten22 Posted March 5, 2018 Report Posted March 5, 2018 I don't know how I stumbled across this, but it couldn't have been better timing. Thank you Shadowrider, for posting this; I now know where to look for motivation to keep being healthy when I start to slip into old bad habits due to body image. I know this will continue to help me and others. 1
shadowrider Posted March 18, 2018 Author Report Posted March 18, 2018 Thank you for your kind words lk. I am glad my words could be of some inspiration.

Guest Avi Posted December 7, 2018 Report Posted December 7, 2018 Thank you for your kind words lk. I am glad my words could be of some inspiration. the way you talk reminds me so much of this gut on social media called Syattfitness. very inspirational and genuine and not afraid to acknowledge the human flaws we all have and can own if we want to. awesome attitude!
shadowrider Posted December 7, 2018 Author Report Posted December 7, 2018 I am unfamiliar with Syattfitness but will be checking them out. Also thanks for the positive feedback, it means a lot.
Lil me Posted April 24, 2019 Report Posted April 24, 2019 Thank you for this! Beautiful song, words, meaning & video! I was bullied as a child. I'd like to say I'm over it, but w tears in my eyes, I know that is not true. How is it I'm still looking for this affirmation (even if it's from the same or different people), after more than 20 years? 1
shadowrider Posted April 24, 2019 Author Report Posted April 24, 2019 Thank you for this! Beautiful song, words, meaning & video! I was bullied as a child. How is it I'm still looking for this affirmation (even if it's from the same or different people), after more than 20 years? You don't get over it, you get used to it. Take a look in the mirror, the approval of that person is what you need to be concerned with. Anyone else' is icing on the cake once you are happy with the person you have become. 1
Guest TokidokiHelloKitty Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 TBH alot of modern celebrities don't even look half as good as their pictures suggest, and don't look even all that good for real. B/c despite them having literally access to EVERYTHING in the world that could make them pretty, they mostly neglect the most IMPORTANT factor when it comes to looks. Basic health. How many modern celebs do you see eating crap food all the time? And alot of these instamodels have bad hygiene and/or eating habits too! Honestly, if one eats only natural food and uses natural skincare products, and partakes in exercise, you'll be AMAZED at how far you'll get and how beautiful you'll be.
Guest TokidokiHelloKitty Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 (edited) It seems like every time I turn around lately I'm hearing or seeing someone shaming themselves because they do not fit today's idealistic image of airbrushed perfection. First of all, that image has more flaws below the surface than most of us have total. Yet we still listen to the hype and garbage that these companies try to tell us about what WE should look like or how WE should dress or even act. The fact that we let someone else decide what makes us feel good is total bullsh#@ in my eyes and I am tired of it. I say we because I too fall into the category of not being satisfied or happy with my current self. I however do not need other people that do not know me saying that I am not beautiful because I don't look like Magic Mike. I am working on myself day by day to get in better shape and better over all health. But the damage has already been done to my psyche that exercise and eating right cannot heal. I used to be ok with myself until social media came along. I mean I wasn't a ripped abs model type but I at least didn't hate myself. Now I don't like mirrors, or taking pictures, or going swimming. Because I know I will be judged not for who I am but for how I look in swim trunks, or by how much bigger I may be than the people in the pic next to me. These things slowly eat at you until you are no longer the person you were meant to be. It is a shame that we cannot look at one another and see the amazing beauty inside each other and openly say something about it. I have seen and felt more love here than any where else I have been online and I thank each of you for that. I know I am not the only one here that needs to hear a positive word of praise every now and then. Just someone saying "Hey you look good today" is all it takes to change a person's day and perhaps their life. So I am posting this to tell everyone here that reads this. I think you are beautiful. I think the person you are is amazing and you should let that light inside you shine as brightly as I know it can. If you want to change yourself for the sake of yourself, then do so. But to hell with hollywood and the superficial arse monkeys that have personal trainers and starve themselves to be a size 0. Their opinion of us does not matter. Strive daily to be the best you that you can possibly be and let the world take it's opinion and shove it. I live through music so I am going to post the lyrics to a song and a link so you can listen to it. I ask that anyone of you that has a song that is an inspiration to you and may touch someone else. Please post the lyrics so we can all see that we are all beautiful in our own way. Thank you for reading and sharing, with love, honor and respect Rob ALESSIA CARA "Scars To Your Beautiful" She just wants to be beautiful She goes unnoticed, she knows no limits, She craves attention, she praises an image, She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor Oh she don't see the light that's shining Deeper than the eyes can find it Maybe we have made her blind So she tries to cover up her pain, and cut her woes away 'Cause covergirls don't cry after their face is made But there's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark You should know you're beautiful just the way you are And you don't have to change a thing The world could change its heart No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh And you don't have to change a thing The world could change its heart No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful She has dreams to be an envy, so she's starving You know, "Covergirls eat nothing." She says, "Beauty is pain and there's beauty in everything." "What's a little bit of hunger?" "I could go a little while longer," she fades away She don't see her perfect, she don't understand she's worth it Or that beauty goes deeper than the surface Ah oh, ah ah oh, So to all the girls that's hurting Let me be your mirror, help you see a little bit clearer The light that shines within There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark You should know you're beautiful just the way you are And you don't have to change a thing The world could change its heart No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh And you don't have to change a thing The world could change its heart No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful No better you than the you that you are (no better you than the you that you are) No better life than the life we're living (no better life than the life we're living) No better time for your shine, you're a star (no better time for your shine, you're a star) Oh, you're beautiful, oh, you're beautiful There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark You should know you're beautiful just the way you are And you don't have to change a thing The world could change its heart No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh And you don't have to change a thing The world could change its heart No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful Also, OP, I notices you mentioned not looking like Magic Mike and being bigger and all that. Let me tell you, I as a female who is attracted to men will say this: AINT. NOTHING. WRONG. WITH. A. CHUBBIER. MAN. And if he has stretch marks, loose skin, or even cellulite (yes men can get it, although rare), idgaf to be honest. Also, having a bit of a belly is cutee <3 Same to all you other dudes reading this. Besides, IMO fit men...actually don't appeal to me that much? Like, they're hot an all, but it's always the men on both opposites of the spectrum that get me going. EIther rail thin ones, or chubby ones. just throwin that out there to say, we don't all like the same thing. Why be a Magic Mike with abs... when you can be this instead? Tagged: NSFW shirtless man (not anything inappropriate, but you might not want people at work seeing you look at a shirtless dude...idk) That's Joji Miller, and, not lying, I find him attractive af. Guest DemureBelle Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 Jessie J - 'Who You Are'. I stare at my reflection in the mirror Why am I doing this to myself? Losing my mind on a tiny error, I nearly left the real me on the shelf No, no, no, no Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing, It's okay not to be okay Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising, Just be true to who you are Brushing my hair, do I look perfect? I forgot what to do to fit the mold, yeah The more I try the less it's working, yeah, 'Cause everything inside me screams, no, no, no, no, yeah Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing It's okay not to be okay Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart But tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising There's nothing wrong with who you are Yes, no's, egos, fake shows Like woo, just go, and leave me alone Real talk, real life, good love, goodnight With a smile , that's my own That's my own, no, no, no, no, no Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing It's okay not to be okay Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising Just be true to who you are, yeah, yeah, yeah It's not a song I listen to often, but this song is something I go back to when I feel down. It's easy to be swept away by the harsh demands of society, and it saddens me when people shame one another for whatever the reason. Regardless of how we look, or how we are, we are beautiful. Our differences and 'imperfections' only emphasize our beauty. 1
weebitofabit Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 Thank you Shadowrider! I've heard this song before, but I can honestly say I've never heard the words before. All my life I've heard, you are too short, too small, too big, too young, too old, too many scars, too smart, too dumb always too this or too that. As much as I tell myself it doesn't matter, it does. I want people to accept me and it seems for most people to accept you, they want you to be like them... I do believe that everyone is beautiful in their own way. But then when I turn the phrase around on me all I see is the exceptions to that rule. Society and even our own families didn't do us any favors by holding up Hollywood as the standard for beauty. Thank you for the reminder!! I appreciate you! 1
shadowrider Posted September 9, 2020 Author Report Posted September 9, 2020 Thank you for sharing. No one is perfect but we can try to be the best us that we can and that's all we can do. And if we don't lift each other up now and then aren't we just holding each other down? Have a wonderful day.
ellie:) Posted January 9, 2022 Report Posted January 9, 2022 Thank you for your post! It's always good to remind ourselves that we're not alone. We all have insecurities. Personally, what I find most frustrating about these standards is that almost everyone loses. Even models and actors are victims of these expectations. Thin privilege and fatphobia make us believe so many lies. There are so many types of bodies. Why can’t they all be ideal? Weight is not representative of health. 1

Cottagegirl Posted April 1, 2022 Report Posted April 1, 2022 I wonder why we do this to ourselves. So many of us are looking for someone to love us, to see us, and to accept us as we are but we are selves don't see others and we are constantly trying to change ourselves to meet some preconceived notion or ideal we have in our own heads. Love yourselves my beauties, be beautiful on the inside, kind to others, lift each other up. Shadowrider I needed to see your post today. Ill be 50 in a few weeks and I'm overweight and I'm a little, sometimes I feel so out of place but I'm going to try to remember the good things in me. I like almost everyone I meet and I try to always be help to others. I'm kind and loving. These are the true things that make us beautiful and if changes need to be made in our lives it should be these things. Be compassionate to your self and others and realize what others consider beautiful (outside beauty) will always fade in time its what you are made of on the inside that matters. Love you all! Thanks 3

Thanks So true and well said. We often change to get approval from others or to be noticed by someone so we can be happy. The problem is, if you change yourself for someone else, you will eventually be unhappy with what you become. You may even grow to resent that person for not loving your true self instead of the person you created to get their attention. If you need to change for your own reasons then by all means be the best you that you can be. But trying to fit into someone else's mold is no way to make yourself happy. Just be yourself and try to let your inner light shine for the world to see. We are all beautiful in our own way. Share kindness and smiles with everyone you can, these things cost nothing for you to give but could mean a lot to someone having a rough day. 5
Erasmeus71 Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 (edited) Look every person is different. No person is alike. No beauty is alike. This is why when a person can be told they are beautiful no matter how different they are. You need to look at the mirror and say to yourself you are beautiful each day. Stop listening to the negative thoughts in your head or a person might had said. Edited January 26, 2023 by Erasmeus71 2
thelasteiko Posted February 4, 2023 Report Posted February 4, 2023 I saw this recently and thought it was appropriate to the topic: https://dressaday.com/2006/10/20/you-dont-have-to-be-pretty/ "You Don’t Have to Be Pretty. You don’t owe prettiness to anyone. Not to your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street. You don’t owe it to your mother, you don’t owe it to your children, you don’t owe it to civilization in general. Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked “female”. This is specifically referencing women but I think it applies to everyone. People are worthy of respect because they are people. We often conflate beauty with worthiness, but no one is less worthy because of how they look, or the state of their health. Some people are not able to be completely healthy because of chronic issue. They are still worthy of respect and consideration. 1 1
Erasmeus71 Posted February 27, 2023 Report Posted February 27, 2023 What people forget about beautiful. Yes there is the outside appearance being pretty. The second is what is more important. Your character as a person. One can be rather handsome or beautiful. but if you behave like some ugly person on the inside. Others will think that way about way no matter how pretty you are on the outside. Your charisma, honesty is much more important and this makes you look beautiful as a person. 2
beanbean Posted April 6, 2023 Report Posted April 6, 2023 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder yes many times we get caught up in the shallow stuff and wonder why relationships and such don't work lol .got to go below the surface 2
lil Mo Posted April 6, 2023 Report Posted April 6, 2023 Thank you for this beautiful post!! Society really tells us too often how to look like but those are unreachable and often unhealthy ideals! And if we would all start looking like that we kinda would become more and more like copies. How boring would that be? It's like with a garden, if there is only one kind of flower it gets kinda boring. But if there are lots of different flowers it becomes so much more beautiful! Let us all be our own flower, beautiful in our special own way. And together we can make the world more beautiful. And with beauty I mean all of our beauties, inside and out. Be yourself, your very special and wonderful and beautiful self!! 4 1
