Red Flags/Catfish

Does anybody else (Even littles etc) find it alarming if someone says they have zero other methods of contact, or is it just me?

It instantly makes me feel like they're either a fake/Catfish.

It's very easy to get swept along talking with someone, without ever knowing if they're actually who they say they are, does anybody else ask for a video message as proof?

What have been your experiences with fakes/Catfish?

I have never personally been catfished as I feel like I either have good luck or a good sense for when someone is lying to me. Skype is also a huge component in every LDR I've ever had, so it'd be a dead give away if they refused to Skype for a rather... Unconvincing reason. Snapchat is a good way to tell if someone is being honest as well, if they're insecure... Well, the picture goes away in a few seconds anyway!

 

I, myself, don't have very many social medias I'm active on. I have Kik (because of daddy), Skype (also daddy) and Twitter. That's about it really... So, yea I don't imagine I'm the easiest to contact but I'd like to think I'm not too difficult.

U just need to be a good judge of character. As a kid (13ish) I used to go online and pretend to be something I'm not just to get nudes or to get to sext and what not. I'd even pretend to be a lesbian girl to get nudes from girls. ahh youth 

I'm preety ashamed of it now , but I'd still get girls to go on cam for me and stuff even tho ''I didn't have a cam nor pics''. I was a boy that just wanted to have fun 

 

So I'd like to advise u to just ignore ppl like that, literally everyone has some sort of means that they can prove if they are real AND have other means of communications, and if they don't, they can make it in a matter of minutes. Somebody that is on a FORUM has to have at least 3 other social networks or something like that, there may be A FEW exceptions , but pls, unless you live on antarctica and a polar bear ate your satelite phone you have to have other means of cummunication, especially in today's day and age.

And not all people have 100000 contact things. I don't have kik, facebook, twitter and co because I don't need them. So please don't judge people just about how many social contact things they have but how they react, behave etc.

Yes but not having them for safety reasons is an actual excuse not just ''uh... Well.. I don't like it yea!'' it's a pretty good judge of whether or not someone's a catfish or not to see how active they are on social media, as well as their reactions and behaviors.

Can I just point out, I specifically said "Zero" other methods of contact. 

 

I'm not expecting them to bust out the Internets worth of social media/chat/forums user names....

I use Skype. I have a Facebook, but I won't give it out to prove I'm real. I have family on there, including my 13 year old nephew who can easily be found through my profile. I also have WhatsApp, but I don't like adding people to it until I know them better because I don't want to give out my phone number.  I don't use KIK simply because I don't like it. I don't think a person needs to have any other reason to not use some sort of communication tool. I've been called fake a lot because I won't use KIK. I just don't like using my phone as a main communication device. I will text with people, but I much prefer typing on the computer over the phone.

 

But in answer to the original question, yes I do see it as a red flag if there is NO way to conact a person other than the place you met them, be it here or any other social site.

I've been catfished multiple times. Of course that was back when myspace was coming to an end and the best phone was a blackberry. So there wasn't really much to go off of in terms of proof.

However, they do give out red flags that don't pertain to pictures and camming.

Most catfish lie. A LOT. If you continuously ask questions, they will get irritable or they'll trip up in their own web.

I've been catfished and it's horrible. Mostly the kind of stuff ~edit~ Coyote mentions. It's pretty devastating when you realise what's really happening. Anyway. you have to remember that catfish dont always just lie about what they look like, some of them just lie about their intentions, which can be worse IMO. like having multiple people they're talking to, etc. you have to be careful and remember that just because they are who they say they are, it doesnt mean they're being honest.

Agree with Princess. Although I think a good start would be to get a photo or video with someone holding a piece of paper with a codeword you just gave them - I know it could be faked, but it if they can come back with that in under a minute, then at least it's most likely (but not guaranteed) they are at least showing their face to you.

while reading this, i was like "gah dang it, people think i'm a catfish, don't they?"

i dislike social media and while i do have a skype, kik, snap chat, twitter and IG, i don't answer or check them enough to be considering active. and i have little to no storage space for the apps. i'll happily show someone my face if i believe they're geniune, but i hope i don't seem like a cat fish.

I don't think you need to be active on those social apps. Just available - at the very least - for a one time video call to prove you're real. Anyone can be a catfish even if they can prove they're genuinely the person they claim they could still be lying about other stuff.
