Peanut Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Okie so.... I got my braces on today. I've been putting it off and putting it off but I have to do it now. After they get everything aligned and stuff I gotta get surgery and they are going to break my jaw to fix it :c I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to deal with the pain... cause right now I don't have anyone to talk to and it all hurts and I dont know what to do....
Guest PrincessCakes Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Oh I have braces! Ice cream and cold drinks help ALOT as well as frozen yogurt ☺️ It's best when you hold a spoonful in your mouth and work it around, after your first few adjustments it will start to be less painful and after your jaw heals of course 1

daddyslilbrat Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Hi, you! I had braces for a long while, along with jaw reconstruction surgery! For me, I talked to my general physician and she was actually able to give me prescription pain killers. Nothing heavy/crazy, just something a little stronger than ibuprofen! Additionally, I found that anything hot made my braces feel tighter. So as little girl said, froyo and ice cream are your friends during this time! Don't forget to invest in some wax and oragel from your local drugstore. Best of luck! If you ever want to chat, feel free to send me a friend request!
Guest RedDragon Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 I don't take any prescription or over the counter meds... EVER. I don't trust manufactured drugs in any way. So let me start by saying I know this isn't for everyone and certainly not legal in most places. But Cannabis has been a major part of my back pain management. Or any pain really. It is legal for medical use here in Cali and has helped many people. In Colorado you guys are 100% legal. I don't encourage anyone to try it if they're not open to it. It's your body and should be a personal decision. But I can definitely attest to its effectiveness. As there are others on this board not in the US, please do not take this as an endorsement to go out and get high. Laws can be extremely strict in other parts of the world so if anyone is considering Cannabis for medical use, make sure you understand your laws and use sound judgement!! For you Peanut, whether it is Cannabis or otherwise, I hope you find relief from the coming pain:(
Guest RedDragon Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 I just realized I'm in the little space forum... I hope I didn't intrude! *quietly tiptoes away*
PrettyLittlePrincessAlison Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 I had braces for several years and wax was a lifesaver!! My lips/inside of my cheeks always got caught on my braces and the wax really helped. Also please do follow the guidelines for what not to eat... i know it can be super tempting to cheat a little but it's not worth it. Don't chew gum or have taffy or eat hard things like gobstoppers or apples- these can all damage your braced and a broken bracket is hella painful. After each month's adjustment, things will be a little sore (because they change the wire and the bands) and then the pain eases as your teeth adjust. As someone else posted you can ask your primary physician for help or advice on treating the pain if cold foods and orajel aren't cutting it.
