Princess_Mica_18 Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 I was thinking of doing a little meetup for the weekend of my birthday (October 14th-October 15th meetup dates) and I was wondering if there were any littles and caregivers in the UK that wanted to do something for it? It would probably be something simple like going to have a tour around London, see the zoo/aquarium or find a park somewhere and host a teddy bears picnic. What do you guys think? Would anyone be inetersted??
Guest MisterBrownEyes Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 I like the idea of a group meet, less pressure in numbers in some ways... I can't make those dates though =( Good luck with your venture =}
andpie Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 I like that idea too. My life is all over the place at the moment but I might be able to attend.
Princess_Mica_18 Posted September 26, 2016 Author Report Posted September 26, 2016 I will need to organise a little better but if this meet goes well then will try and do more in future
Guest MisterBrownEyes Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Yes please =} love the idea of a picnic, shame we're entering autumn now ={
Princess_Mica_18 Posted September 27, 2016 Author Report Posted September 27, 2016 Yeah I was thinking of doing a teddy bear one in summer and something halloween themed for now but I'm not sure how I can do it
Guest MisterBrownEyes Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Hmm, I'll put my thinking cap on and try think of a way it could be done =}
Thequeen Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Well since you kind of asked for ideas I am going to try and help even though I am sadly in the USA so cant come even though my little boy would have absolutely died of happiness to have been able to gone. 1.) as for like the location- you have a few people who have already said they wanted to come and could come so I would ask what area they live in, like a city for example that way no addresses are exchanged so everyone stays safe. Once you know the cities you can find somewhere in the middle of you all (hopefully not to far for anyone but UK is small so maybe its not as much of a concern as it is for USA people??) 2.) After figuring out where it may be, I would definately recommend the park idea for this first time or at least starting in a park and heres why: once youve picked the location you can set the times and date which you already kind of have. But then you as the planner can quickly go shopping a buy a few very distinct things so that everyone can spot you. so for a park I would say to buy- a tarp or mat to put on the grass that is a distinct color or patter (like blue or plaid) then buy some ballons so you have some height people can see from a distance and make those all the same colors or a set of colors (like blue ballons or blue and pink ballons or even silver metallic balloons) and maybe a sign of some sort. 3.) Then again as the planner I would go down a few days earlier and scope out the area. Do they have lunch benches somewhere? is there a very large distinct tree? are there labeled entrances (like "north entrance" "south entrance" Ive seen a few of these at nicier parks here in MA so I dont know if thats normal in UK or not) Any of these things can be used to describe the location of your set up on top of what your set up actually looks like. So decide on an exact location within the set park location after considering what would be the easiest for people to find. 4.) After all this is done you post a very discriptive message on here of how to find your camp. So say the date, time, location (address if possible to help ease any extra issues before they happen). the very basics first of course. Then you get into the fun english class actually being used in everyday life! (now if only math was the same way) Use your verbs, adverbs, nouns, pronouns. Talk about where the camp will be set up first so here is an example set at the Boston Commons: "My camp is set up in the North Eastern region of the park. If you enter from the North Eastern Corner I will be immediately to your right, North of the playground, if you get to the duck pond you have gone to far. I am on a blue tarp with blue balloons on the ground. There is a sign posted on the tree next to me saying "TheQueen's Birthday Meet-Up!"" So that is an example of a pretty good description that most people (I am not perfect and know that so its okay) would be able to find the area then see my camp. You can also describe what you are wearing to help out some people don't like doing this but you can decide, it would be the stereotypical wear a red rose to find your date sort of thing from the movies but regular people will be as simple as to say "I am wearing baggy cotton shorts, a navy blue tank top, and I have neck length dirty blonde hair." So they also can see if the person matches up. 5.) You will be in a park but you need to make sure there will be other other people there. By other other people I mean bystanders. I know its a park but some parks at some hours are completely deserted. You do NOT NOT NOT NOT want to set up camp there! It is too dangerous for you and anyone involved for a first meeting. You need to go to a bigger park that you know will be crowded. I know this sucks cause you will all be more nervous probably but its better that then being unsafe. Let this meeting be more for meting each other then next time you can make it at a more private (again not completely but more so) so that you can all be your inner littles and daddies. The other option is if you have a friend or family member that knows about this side of you, have them come with. 6.) as I said at first you can have it so this is just the meting place and it could be across the street from where you actually want to go the zoo, aquarium, or whatever else. In tat case put on your post met time and have it be a good range so that no one is left behind hopefully! You can out met time is 10am and we leave for the event at 1130 and that time can just be used to get to know each other or even smarter is feed the people! As a mommy I am always hungry so is my little so feed them and I'm sure you will have a good crowd that is on time hahaha Anyways I hope this helped some! I know it was suuuuuppppeeeerrr lengthy but hopefully it will help you tons! Good luck out there and please be super safe! -TheQueen
