A piece I wrote a few years ago

Hey folks ^ . ^ Hanna here.. Just wanted to share this piece I almost always forget about, haha. I recently dug it back up and made a few edits but just wanted to throw it here for others to read

It is fairly spiritual, in an ambiguous way. Just a heads-up

"Home"

________________

Waves crash along the golden sandy shores

It is near midnight, and the moon is shining fully

Between patches of dark-toned clouds

A shuffle in the sand, an egg begins to shiver beside its brethren

A crack, a shake, a poke, a leap

And a baby sea turtle emerges from its protective wall

She joins thousands of others, all smaller than a child’s palm

Following the reflection of the moon on the boundless ocean surface

She takes a plunge into the chilling water to begin her journey

The wind blows coolly through the branches of the dew-covered tree

Rustling leaves and scratching wood, and the morning sounds of songbirds

Wake the mighty osprey from her nightly rest

She extends her wings and shakes them out

Preening them into place, placing them perfectly along her body

She flaps her wings a few times to stretch, then calls out, satisfied

She walks along her branch, waiting for the sun to rise a little higher

She squints her eyes, extends her wings once more

And, feeling the uplifting wind beneath her, takes flight

It is 5 A.M. and the blaring alarm clock signals the start of the routine

The grown man, back still sore from yesterday’s shift,

Reluctantly and spitefully leaves his bed

He throws on another set of work clothes and goes to start the coffee machine

He returns upstairs to shave and clean, the bags under his eyes growing daily

He grabs his equipment, wallet, and keys before leaving his room

He pours his coffee and drinks it black

Rinses the mug in a hurry to leave

By 5:30, he pulls out of the driveway to start his day

30 years have passed now, and the grown sea turtle returns to her birthplace to rest

It has been a long journey, and she was lucky to have made it to this point

Her life has been full of many challenging struggles

She has now been pregnant with her eggs for 8 weeks

And after her long travel back home, they are ready to be laid

She digs into the sand and rests, waiting for nature to take effect

She looks around, knowing full well where it is that she rests

This is the beach where she took that first plunge into the vast ocean waters

Even after 30 long, harsh years, she knew exactly where to return home

It is nearing the end of the day, the sun painting the sky in brilliant colors of pinks and oranges

The wind blows hard against the sturdy tree, still standing tall and strong

A small flock of osprey chicks follow their mother back home, hungry bellies sated

They land on their roosts and nestle in for the night, watching the sun return over the horizon

They call out to one another

Checking to see that each made it home safely

The next day, their mother would send them on their way

Now able to catch their own meals, they can fend for themselves

But they will always be able to call this tree their home

Decades have passed, and the man’s sore, stiff body can no longer perform the work it was once able

Successful, yet saddened, he drives down his literal memory lane, the road on which he once lived

Suitcases full of personal belongings in the back seat, his life now coming to its final stage

The newly retired man knew this was the only place he wanted to live out his last years on Earth

He fought hard to win the house from the competing buyers

But he had more money and more love than anyone could ever have for this house

Returning home was the only fitting way to begin this final chapter, he felt

He smiled softly as he spotted it around the corner

Tears now falling from his face, he pulled into the too-familiar driveway and parked

Another number of years have passed, life still going on, busy as always, never resting

The proud parent sea turtle, now sick with illness, lies on an unfamiliar shore

She has not knowingly seen her young since the night of their hatching

An adult Osprey watches from the tree from which she hatched her young

The same tree on which she was fed, then fed her own offspring

Her life now complete, she watches the sun set and her own life fade

The grown man lies in his deathbed, relaxing peacefully, his Last Will in the back of his mind

He sighs contently, having successfully lived his life to its fullest

He thought to himself that this was a great night to move on

And the spirits of the fallen turtle, osprey, and grown man

Slowly make their way out of their earthly bodies

And make their way back where they belong, into the realm they call home

((Please don't steal my work lmao I might be able to do something with this one day >.> ))
