Disney Princes

I put in my profile that the Beast was my favorite Disney Prince. Someone asked me why and I explained. Here's what I wrote and He said it should be posted here.

I started thinking about it after my niece was born. Crazy the things little girls are exposed to. I hope you guys enjoy it and Hopefully you don't think I'm nuts!

Sleeping Beauty's prince....She's having a perfectly good nap. He wakes her up from a good sleep and doesn't even offer her any food. What kind of a prince does that? Not a very good one!

Snow White's prince....She lives in a house with seven guys who work in the mines so you know they're dirty. Some of them are grumpy, sleepy, sneezy, one is just plan dopey, but she takes care of everyone with no help. There's no one around to say "Hey babe, that apple looks kind of iffy. Try this one instead."  She does all the work, no help, but again gets woken from a peaceful sleep.

Ariel sacrifices her voice to be with Prince Eric, but again no help. She has to learn everything from walking to not combing her hair with a fork by herself and with no voice! All Prince Eric has to do is"Kiss the girl".

Lion king. Nahla may not be a princess, but even she has to go find Simba and beg him to come back. Just to do what is his rightful job!

Cinderella's prince, He's the worst! Did you know in the Grimm's version the sister's cut their heels to try and fit in the slipper? So, basically, there's a girl who does all the work and chores for a whole house, while being nice to ugly, hateful people. Even when she thinks she's going to get to go to the ball, She makes her own dress....that would never fly in Highland Park! What does "Prince Charming" do? Dances with her until midnight. She's wearing glass slippers! Her feet would hurt! and then all he does is give her back HER OWN shoe. After every girl in the kingdom tried to get their foot in it including her ugly sisters so the used shoe probably has blood on it too!...ugh

What a real prince would've done is send castle staff to the houses of people matching her description to help with the chores...Kingdoms have records. She still would've had work to do but it would've been easier to get it done. Plus, her sisters would've been quiet. Then when he sees her he says, "Hi, sweetheart, I noticed last night you lost a shoe. So I used this one for size and got you a new pair. This one is kind of worn I don't think you'll need it anymore." (hands over strappy Gucci sandals.)

All these stories are about girls who do all the work and heavy lifting by themselves with happy and cheerful attitudes. Their only reward? A "prince" who does nothing to help them or get to know them along the way.

The Beast is a different story. Yes Belle's trapped in the castle. That's not great, but the Beast makes sure the staff is friendly to her, that she's entertained, and has good meals. He knows she likes books so all the books in the castle library are hers to read. He takes her outside to play in the snow so she doesn't get too coped up. Here's the important part, when the angry villagers come to the castle with torches and pitchforks, The beast has them come at him.  He takes on the whole village and id willing to be hurt himself just to protect Belle. He's the only one who gets to know, cares for, and protects his princess.

I understand what you mean. T really like The Beast/Prince Adam too. He was one of the only ones willing to sacrifice anything for nothing in return. He wasn't sure if she loved him, he didn't know if this was the last he'd ever see of her, but he not only let her go. Sacrificing his final hope to be human, he then offers himself up to protect her.

Sure the story has it's flaws, as do all love stories, but he is a noble guy. And I like who he is, at the heart of it all.

In Kingdom Hearts, Beast had such a strong heart that he literally survived the destruction of his own world, willed himself to a foreign land, and fought tooth and nail to get Belle back.  Where were the other princes?  Not there, let me tell you!

Beast is hands down the best prince.  Without a doubt.

I agree with that! Beauty and the beast is one of my favorite disney movie  ^_^ Also that part is cute where the beast let Belle go from the castle when her father is sick.

Oh good! I'm glad you all like it. He asked me to explain so I did, but when I wrote it all out I thought "you're crazy."

i guess....we're just gonna ignore the part where he held Belle's father against her will, then held her against her will???

beauty and the beast may be one of my favorite disney movies, but the beast could've done way better with belle.

for example:

  • sleeping beauty was cursed and basically dead; prince philip saved her life
  • snow white lives with the seven dwarves because they showed her kindness after her evil stepmother just sent someone to kill her; she's also 14 and probably growing up with her bitch stepmother never heard the lesson "don't talk to strangers", not to mention the dwarves are letting her stay there asking her to do housework, while they go to work (not an unreasonable request in my opinion). she's got it made until her stepmother fucks it up. idk what the prince did wrong other than, again, come save her life.
  • ariel doesn't sacrifice herself to be with eric. she wanted to be a human so bad she went to ursula for help when her father wouldn't help her. she wasn't giving anything up for eric. she was getting the life she wanted.
  • simba has ptsd from what scar did to him. anyone who has ptsd can see that clearly throughout the movie. not to mention scar lied to his face and told him he was the cause of his father's death. he convinced him that the world would be better off without him. excuse him - someone with depression and ptsd - if he's a little hesitant to go back to that life.
  • cinderella's prince saves her from an abusive family, so i don't see how he could possibly be the worst and well i thought we were talking about disney princes, so that's what i'm going to address. cinderella is literally being abused and he saves her. how does that make him bad?
  • and so finally we reach the beast, who does get the most time to get to know belle, but only because he kidnaps her father, holds him against his will, and then does the same thing to her. she gets traumatized, develops stockholme syndrome and falls in love with him. sorry, but i don't see how he's the best.

i mean yeah he let her go and kinda made up for it and she did fall in love with him (which i can hardly count because, like i said, it's so clearly a case of stockholme syndrome) and like the argument could be made that if he didn't kidnap her no one would've fallen in love with him and he would've been a beast forever (but honestly if you're going to act like a beast maybe you should stay one), but that kidnapping thing still happened and there's plenty of disney princes that didn't do that, which, in my opinion, makes them better.

though he's not the only prince with a track record. flynn rider also manipulated rapunzel multiple times in an attempt to try to get his satchel back (still not as bad as kidnapping in my opinion), so did Naveen in the princess and the frog.

also prince eric (i mean this was hampered by ursula, but that's really not his fault), naveen, and flynn rider all did take the chance to get to know their princesses as well (and didn't kidnap them to do it; though naveen and flynn both manipulated their princess before getting to know her) and that was why they fell in love with them to begin with. so yeah. i'm gonna have to disagree with most of this.

Anne Marie,

I loved this post. I guess I'd never thought of it quite so clinically and I see all your points. Mostly, I just relived to have not been the only one to put thought into it. I'm new to all of this after all.

I don't think I can say for sure which princes are better than the others. They all have their good and bad points, none of them are perfect. Actually, reading all this reminds me of how much I love Brave

THANK YOU! Finally someone else understands this. Ariel wanted to be a human long before Prince Eric came along. I mean, sure, he made that desire stronger but it was already there. The very first scene that she's in, she's collecting human stuff from a shipwreck, and when she sings "Part Of Your World", she hasn't even met Eric yet. She was already determined to not be a mermaid anymore, falling in love was like the last little push that she needed to make her dreams come true. She's my favorite princess probably because I can relate to her feeling out of place and wanting a new, exciting life that's much different than her own.
