So, my daddy and I have started this juice cleansing diet as seen in popular television documentaries Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead 2. Basically, it is giving up food of all kinds and replacing it with organic fruit and vegetable juice made in home with a juicer machine. Besides juice, the only other thing allowed is potassium/protein broth made in a slow cooker with only vegetables. ( I am also experimenting with hot fruit broth.) I am not asking anyone to participate with us, but I think it is a nice idea to spread, and I would love to have extra outside support. Giving up food is hard!

Please be EXTREMELY careful with this. Our bodies naturally detox and you aren't going to have ANY energy without some things in your diet like protein and carbs. It's good to try and be healthy, but juice cleaning doesn't do much for long periods of time and generally I would encourage it with healthy eating along with the juice. Please be careful and if you feel it's not working please try something else. see a doctor to see if this is safe with taking the needed supplements.

Thank you for the warning and advice. I do this yearly :) Sometimes I have to eat a piece of grilled chicken around 30 days in, but for the most part, the juice recipes we have from the documentaries are well balanced and help to keep the body going.

Sorry but no. I happen to know a little about health and nutrition and these diets are beyond worthless. Sure you might lose a bit of weight initially, but only temporarily and once you start eating again (which you will), the weight will come back on, with probably more besides.

The only reason they work at all is the same way any fad diet (or health diet) works. By reducing calories. They are not healthy. And they teach you nothing about how to fuel your body. Quick fixes are very unhealthy.

They are simply to make money. Sad but true. Join a free site like myfitnesspal, or sparkpeople, input all your details, and it will gove you a calorie total. Then cut out all processed food, junk, and sugary things. You need carbs, but you do not need actual sugar. Fat is not the enemy, sugar is. Also get regular exercise.

Hi Meggles! It's always interesting talking about juice cleansing! When I did alternate vegan months for one month I decided to juice cleanse and I absolutely loved it! :) It only lasted 31 days however, and I was excited to go back to eating food, but I really felt great! It was easier being vegan whilst cleansing as opposed to eating vegan friendly foods.. Food preparation was much easier! I suppose for myself I saw it as if I'm going to eat a fruit salad for my lunch, what's the difference between eating it whole or if it's juiced.. And it was much more convenient for myself to juice!

I didn't cleanse to lose weight, it was just a challenge I wanted to accomplish and I felt fantastic! The first few days were very difficult but I adjusted to it much quicker than what I thought. :)

It was a brilliant way to detox and I really enjoyed experimenting with juice recipes and was able to stay much more energised in comparison to other detox regimes I'd completed!

Best of luck to you, I don't think I'd be able to do it for 90 days, but 30 was managable and quite frankly, I loved it!

Best of luck to you. :)

oh man, I honestly hate hearing about so called cleanses. especially if they require you to stop eating. they're fads. they're not good for your body. will you live through it? sure. but your body needs to take in a certain amount of calories to function properly. not something I would encourage in anyone.

Thank god I'm not the only one that knows this!

i saw the documentary. I'd never try a diet without sufficient protein. Edited by Meowth

Juice diets are very dangerous! Juicing removes any fibre in the fruits and veggies you are using - fibre is what maintains your blood sugar. Most people use way too many fruits which cause insane sugar spikes and can damage your pancreas. Your body needs proteins, your body needs fibre - you are depriving your body of proper fuel. If you insist on doing this kind of thing - reduce the fruit to almost nothing and make smoothies as opposed to juice. Again though - even with smoothies it's not good for you. Fad diets don't work - that's what makes them fads and not fact. You can get the same results taking on a whole foods diet - or even just cutting out processed crap. If you treat your body right you will never need to "cleanse" out toxins. Just don't put them in there in the first place.

Give that girl a freakin cookie! Oh wait, no, not a cookie......give that girl a grilled salmon fillet with lots of colourful veggies and green leafy mixed leaf salad! Round of applause. Actual real facts there.

I like hearing what you all have to say, but I've been doing this for years. Your opinions and comments aren't going to change anything, but they are all mighty interesting and I appreciate the feedback.

I wouldn't personally do it, but there was a time I was seriously considering it. I feel much better when I supplement a regular healthy diet with juice or smoothie days but the "healthy diet" part is enough of a challenge for me! 90 days with no chocolate milk is my nightmare.

What you're doing isn't something I'd recommend but that said, if it's made you feel good in the past, I wish you luck! We all make our own choices and you clearly aren't here trying to convince others to join you, so whatever - you do you :~)

oh, I am interested in your fruit broth though! Mind telling me about it?

Of course! My fruit broth was pitted cherries (about 2 cups), grapes cut in half (about 1 cup), a whole cucumber cut into 4 slices, 5 lemons cut into disks, 8 oranges cut into disks, 4 limes cut into disks, 3 tbsp of cinnamon, and about 4 cups of organic agave nectar all in the crock pot with water filling it up the rest of the way. I let it cook overnight on low and left it on warm until all the broth was gone. Super nice change from vegetable broth.
