DaddyDom00 Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 I've been with my kitty for almost 2 years and every time she has a problem or wakes up in the middle of the night from a nightmare I never know how to comfort her besides from hugging her.. can anyone help with suggestions or advice?
DaddyDom00 Posted July 12, 2016 Author Report Posted July 12, 2016 I also put on her favorite show and rock her in my arms but I always feel like it's not enough
LolitaDaddy Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 Sounds about right hugging, holding, rocking, humming or sing.. Why do you feel it's not enough? Comforting someone are about time & presence, not an immediate solution. If possible, you can help her tell you about her nightmares right after; talking it out can help. So you can help her remember details to discuss it later. 1
honeyboy Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 What LolitaDaddy said about comforting being about time & presence rather than an immediate solution was true and very well said. Everything you're doing seems good to me, it's the sort of stuff I'd need. If you feel like you need to do more, have you asked your little what she wants? It might be good to think about this together, since it's about her needs in this situation.
BH_Bambi Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 Talk. To. Her. Ask her what is comforting to her, ask her if it's more important to discuss it there and then or focus on getting back to sleep. Everyone is different - when I'm upset, I find it much more comforting to have very little stimulation from my partner. So, he holds me, but is quiet and doesn't try to stroke my back or anything. We're just still and quiet until I make the decision to move or talk.

DaddyDom00 Posted July 12, 2016 Author Report Posted July 12, 2016 Thanks everyone I guess you guys are right, I'll use some of the things you said and I'll talk to her and ask her what comforts her, thanks everyone. If y'all do think of anything else I'll keep an eye out on this post. Thank you all very much.
Guest LavanderRabbit Posted July 13, 2016 Report Posted July 13, 2016 Talk to her once she feels better about her nightmares. Some times it can help know what's bothering her. Physical comfort is important and just talking can help too. I call daddy when I get bad nightmares and be sings or reads me a story. If he has one and calls me I just talk to him until he calms down enough to talk (he also gets really bad anxiety attacks), sometimes I just talk like I'm talking to myself because he can't respond. Also making some sleepy tea or just something hot can help her go back to sleep. It's a lot like aftercare.
