I like to crochet stuffies. I love turtles so of course one of the first things I wanted to make was a turtle. It took me a little bit before I was ready, but I finally made this little guy. His name is squirt! 🐢 -

Drawing ,coloring and ink work
Andriel_Isilien replied to Satan's topic in Teeny Tiny Arts and Craft Club's DIY projects
Here is the step-by-step process I do for coloring with Prisma pencils. It is layers upon layers starting with the lightest shade as the base. Knowing where shadows go is an ongoing practice. That's the best advice I can give; practice and keep learning! I leave spots open for the paler hues to show through. I want to avoid using black and white like a crutch for shading. 1- Light Peach 2- Deco Orange 3- Terra Cotta (LOVE this hue because it gives an excellent tanned look that is fleshy) 4- Burnt Ochre or Sienna Brown (sometimes I use one or the other just to mix things up) 5- Blend with colorless pencil After this I MIGHT touchup with White to highlight bright spots and maybe some Blush Pink depending on the character. If I think some enhancement is needed to make the color pop more, I'll color in a bit of Dark Umber for the darkest shadow on the skin. -

Andriel_Isilien replied to Satan's topic in Teeny Tiny Arts and Craft Club's DIY projects
I'll share my drawing process that I thoroughly enjoy as my outlet now that it's back. I prefer sketching with a mechanical pencil because legit graphite pencils are a PAIN to sharpen every 10 seconds. I like to have a fine point! A website I highly recommend for pose references is POSEMANIACS - Royalty free 3d pose reference for all artists (SFW but be aware the models don't have skin. It's muscle, sinew, and bone). This place is such an AMAZING tool and it's free! There is so much you can use to practice, challenge yourself, or find a quick pose for help. From there, I found a particular model I wanted to use as reference as my base. This is fanart that I drew so I used other photo references from the show for features/details of the character Donatello - Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. 🐢💜 And the 2nd is Kaladin from the Way of Kings series 💫 With drawing, smudges can be such a bitch and a tip I picked up is to have a sheet of scrap paper underneath my hand as I draw. Next is my favorite step which is inking! It's SO satisfying as I polish my lines and clean up the page from smudges. I think micron or inkline pens the best as they come in various tip thickness. They don't smear and they don't bleed through the paper but still give a permanent line. The bolder and heavier lines I went over with 08 (,50mm) and the finer or thinner lines I did in 03 (.35mm). You don't need a massive set of pens. Just the basics 03, 05, and 08 sizes. Erase all my pencil marks and touch up the ink some more. I used a scanner to copy my image. Then I upload it on a free photo editor LunaPic | Free Online Photo Editor - Edit, Adjust & Create. (SFW) This is simply to tweak the contrast that gets my drawing nice and ✨crisp✨. I always like to save a digital copy of my art. In case I mess up the coloring, I can always print it out again. The only downside to that is printer ink can smear when coloring. Last is color and blend with Prismacolor pencils! 🙌 I stick to 3 or 4 shades at most for each color because too many layers will ruin it (in my opinion). It's fun to assign characters their specific colors according to the names on the pencils. For example: Donnie here is a nice "Olive Green" hue 🐢 Kaladin's got some Terra Cotta to his skin tone. I use a scrap of paper to test because blending and layering colors will change how they appear. There is a colorless pencil (not white) meant specifically for blending and that's where the MAGIC happens. It's so cool to see how much that amplifies everything! Never underestimate the potential of blending! I add tiny bits of white and black color to make things pop but don't rely heavy on that. Tidy up ink lines where needed, erase any edges, and done! Coloring with prisma I learned from observing another artist and with practice. I may just re-create the step-by-step tutorial that taught me all those years ago with my next drawing. 😁 -

Sculpting, Clay, Playdough
Andriel_Isilien posted a topic in Teeny Tiny Arts and Craft Club's DIY projects
Last fall I got back into making fairy houses with baking clay. I take my time with these because I want to put in lots of details and sometimes have to step away for a bit in order to get the creativity back in flow. 🌟 Covering my project with a plastic bag does the trick in keeping the clay from drying out. Here is the process I do. Phase 1: Picking out glass jars and arranging tin foil with cardboard for the skeleton of the house. I'm doing a Hobbit Hole inspired from Tolkien. Be liberal with the hot glue gun and press down the foil to be firm. I do not recommend plastic bottles unless the clay you are using is the kind that you let air dry instead of baking in the oven. I usually set my jars upside down because I want the opening to go over a fake candle. I have seen fairy houses made with the lids as part of the roof so that you can open the house up and close it again. Next comes the clay! Keep the layering as consistent as possible. This will help the drying/baking process to be even over the house. I go for 1/4 to 1/2-inch thickness. You can roll out the clay like a pancake to make sure the thickness stays the same and then drape over your house, working in the nook and crannies. Press it in all over to cover the entire house except the bottom. Unless you want the bottom be part of the piece to pick up and be seen. I just want to save clay. Now comes the SLOW part for me with this project. I want to put in details, so this takes up a lot of time. This is my preference, but you can go as simple as you want. Cut out the windows, carve textures, apply more bits of clay, stick in rocks or any heat proof materials you want. Remember to take breaks, not only for your own sanity but to also not let the clay dry out too early. When you are not working on the piece, cover/seal the entire thing (and leftover clay) in a plastic bag. Phase 2 is baking or drying if you are using non-baking clay. Line a pan with parchment paper or foil and bake at 275 F 15 - 20 minutes. If you went for thicker layers of clay (1/2-inch or more then go for 30 minutes). I advise to check every 15 minutes to prevent burning or damaging the clay. It will go white when done and firm. Overbaking with make it crack from brittleness with a toasty color (that you do not want). Be careful it's hot! Sometimes, a crack here and there is unavoidable; shit happens 😢 I am learning that the longer I let the clay sit out in a bag, the more likely it will develop cracks when baking. It's not the end of the world as they are small. Let the piece cool entirely before handling without oven mitts. Any addons that fell off from this phase you can secure them back in with superglue. If you have scraps of clay leftover, seal those up in a baggy (with the air pressed out) for another project. Now onto Phase 3 - Painting colors and gluing on extra bits of texture. Regular acrylic craft paint (no particular brand) works well with this clay. Mix up colors to get different shades or keep it as simple as you want. This is my first-time gluing on other materials outside of the clay and it is coming out great! Fake moss I used a hot glue gun to secure. Sticks and figurines would also be great ideas to glue on. Basically, paint first then glue afterwards on top of the paint. Just as I'm writing this, I got the idea of glitter for a fairy house. Save that for the last phase with mod podge unless you have specific glitter paint that you can brush on.-

I started this well over a year ago. It is a beaded Christmas tree. This is how it looked on the first run, but... I imagined what I wanted, and not seeing anything like it to use as a pattern and no helpful tips, I have been figuring out how to do this as I go. I would like to finish it sometime in the upcoming year, especially as this is the 2nd Christmas with it still not finished. I have in fact torn it almost completely apart 5 times. Still, I hope to finish it for next year and to use what I have learned to attempt some similar projects, but so often my dreams are bigger than my skills! I call it a sculpture because I can't think of anything else to describe it. The picture shows the project frame, suspended in a larger weaving frame to allow access to both sides of the tree.

I made a calming jar out of a large bottle meant for collecting coins (like a lil bank). I sealed any openings on the lid to prevent leaks. To make a calming jar you will need: - Jar of your choice with a lid - Hot water - Glitter glue - Glitter of your choice (extra fine is better) - Extra add ins: food coloring, water beads, glow in the dark stars, confetti, tiny toy figures First you dump all of the glue into your jar. Next, add in the water and stir to mix the glue in thoroughly. If using glass, make sure the jar is warmed up before pouring hot water directly into it. The shock of cold to hot can make glass crack and break. Once you have the glue dissolved, you can now put in the rest of the materials. If there is still some empty space in the jar, then top it off with water. Twist on the lid (seal with super glue) and you're done! -
